Classification Grade: Senior Solicitor (Legal Officer Grade IV)
Salary: $144,058 - $146,831 p.a base salary (employer’s contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading is paid in addition to the base salary.)
Work type: Temporary full-time – 35 hours per week, up to 30 June 2026 with a possibility of extension and conversion to ongoing.
*Location: Our primary place of work is the CSO Office located at 60-70 Elizabeth Street, Sydney. Please note we will be relocating to a new premises located at Parkline Place, 252 Pitt Street, Sydney in July 2026.
About the role
As a Senior Solicitor (LOGIV) at the CSO, you will be delivering high-quality legal services to the NSW Government and its agencies. The role will involve tenure analysis and the preparation of legal advice in relation to Native Title.
This opportunity in the Property and Native Title Practice Group will focus on, as part of a wider team, undertaking the historical land analysis aspect of large scale native title claims by:
Analysing past government acts on land by reviewing historic property records to identify the (tenure) status of land to establish the effect on native title including by considering maps, plans, grants and gazettes.
Preparation of evidence in support of factual arguments regarding tenure for large scale native title claim litigation.
Provision of advice to agencies on the status of native title over Crown land.

About you. Our ideal candidate.
Advanced analytical skills to enable the analysis of historic maps and land records.
Well developed attention to detail and ability to consider interrelated chains of information.
Enjoys historic investigation.
Proven ability to manage large volume document review, competing priorities, deliver results within tight timeframes and apply a project management approach to your legal work.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly explain complex factual scenarios to clients and other stakeholders.
Works well as part of a team, with an ability to guide others within a project environment.
A collaborative, client-focused approach and a commitment to public sector values, integrity and continuous professional development.
Not necessary to have prior experience in native title law.
Prior experience in historic land tenure an advantage but not essential.
Essential requirements
• Completion of a law degree from an accredited law school or completion of the Legal Practitioners Admission Board’s Diploma in Law Course.
• Admission or eligibility for admission as a legal practitioner in NSW.
• Well developed legal skills which enable provision of advice and representation in legal matters in areas of law in which the Practice Group specialises.
• Undertake Criminal Record Check and Working with Children Check.
