Location – Sydney CBD (With hybrid opportunities)

Employment Type – Temporary Fulltime, 9-month contract duration with potential for ongoing

Salary & Grade – Clerk Grade 5/6 $99,938.00 - $110,271.00

 

This is a targeted recruitment. Your role

 

The Assistant Project Officer supports the Manager, Court Services Aboriginal Inclusion Unit to successfully deliver on the DCJ Aboriginal outcomes strategy, and other DCJ business objectives targeting Aboriginal people, communities and businesses. The role undertakes a range of research, analysis, reporting, implementation and administrative activities to support the development and delivery of complex Aboriginal Outcomes projects, in line with established project plans and objectives.

 

What you’ll do

 

The Assistant Project Officer supports the Manager and Snr Project Officer of the Aboriginal Inclusion Unit (AIU) to successfully deliver on the Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) Aboriginal Outcomes strategy and other DCJ business objectives targeting Aboriginal people, communities, and businesses.  Working within Courts NSW, the role undertakes a range of research, analysis, presentations, reporting, implementation, and administrative activities to support the development and delivery of complex Aboriginal outcomes projects in line with established project plans and objectives.

 

This includes coordinating meetings, preparing briefs and reports, maintaining project documentation, and supporting initiatives that embed culturally safe practices, enhance Aboriginal staff participation, and strengthen engagement with Aboriginal communities and stakeholders.

 

The role collaborates closely with internal business areas, judicial officers, Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal staff, and external partners to ensure Aboriginal perspectives are embedded across court operations, service delivery, and reform initiatives, supporting both strategic and operational outcomes in line with Closing the Gap priorities.

 

What we’re looking for

 

  • Demonstrated understanding of Aboriginal cultures, histories, and contemporary issues, and a strong commitment to advancing Aboriginal inclusion, cultural safety, and self-determination with government
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision, effectively manage own workload, meet deadlines, and take accountability for tasks while operating in a culturally respectful, high-trust environment
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate respectfully and effectively with Aboriginal staff, community representatives, Elders, and government stakeholders.
  • Ability to draw on cultural knowledge and lived experience to inform day-to-day wok, contribute to culturally appropriate project delivery, and support meaningful engagement with Aboriginal stakeholders
