About this job:
The Department provides 24-hour, 7 days a week safety and security services to the District's students, staff, visitors, and physical assets. The span of control for this position varies depending on the specific assignment. Campus safety span of control is sergeants, campus safety and administrative personnel. Operations span of control is sergeants, armed patrol officers. The lieutenant will provide leadership, command, coordination, and management of their assigned team. Depending on assignment within the Department of Climate Safety under the direction of the Department's Deputy Chief and Commander for Campus Safety.
This position will require the applicant to carry a firearm while on duty. Provides emergency response and supervisor oversight for all Department of Climate and Safety (DoCS) personnel as necessary. The position will also address any issues that could potentially negatively impact any division within the DoCS and communicate and collaborate with school leaders on site-based safety and security issues.
This position ensures that scheduling, assignments, evaluations, and standards of service are conducted and adhered to. The person in this role assists the Deputy Chief and Commander in planning and training for the division.

What You'll Do:
- Ensures all levels of the assigned division staff comply with the District and Department policies, procedures, and collective bargaining agreements. This includes compliance with existing local, state, or federal laws and ordinances pertaining to unlawful activities on or about school properties. Ensures that the applicable standards of service requirements are adhered to by all staff, including campus safety officers, patrol officers, and sergeants
- In conjunction with the Training Sergeant, oversee and coordinate new hire training and annual in-service training for all new and existing staff. Assist as needed with coordinating the Safe Routes to Schools Program and participates in the Traffic Safety Task Force consortium with the City and County of Denver
- Responsible for the oversight and management of the assigned Division within the DoCS. Take supervisory charge, overseeing and directing the activities of all DoCS staff during critical incidents while on duty or as directed. Ensuring assigned sergeants are directing, reviewing, and following up on daily officer functions such as preparing and submitting reports, time sheets, and other necessary documentation for daily activities
- Develop effective and harmonious working relationships and active partnerships with law enforcement and other emergency services. All members of the DoCs will be involved in coordinating, communicating, and managing department activities with other internal/ external stakeholders and the district's physical assets
- Complete personnel performance evaluations fairly and consistently and within departmental or district guidelines
- Assists the DoCS leadership in various administrative functions, i.e., develop, improve, and implement policies, procedures, and processes for the assigned division. Perform other duties and accept additional assignments and responsibilities as requested\
- Ensure the compilation of accurate statistical and other data that may be required. This will include, but not be limited to, activity statistics, incident analysis, time sheets, and other pertinent data related to the effective management of personnel and programs
- Maintain availability during the off-duty time for consultation or callout due to emergencies impacting the District and unforeseen circumstances. Ensure appropriate staffing levels to maintain the district-wide deployment of personnel resources as directed by DoCS Leadership and the organization's needs
- Serve as a member of the Department's command and management team. Respond as necessary to requests for safety and security assistance from individual schools/sites and assume supervisory control of safety personnel

What You’ll Need:
Education - Minimum:
- Bachelor's or relevant work experience (Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in related discipline)

- 7+ years of verifiable full time supervisory experience in law enforcement or multi-task security operations
Licensure & Certifications
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a City and County of Denver Merchant Guard License and/or Denver Code Enforcement Authorization.
