Job Summary

This position is responsible for the day-to-day operations, personnel, and financial management of clinical research and other sponsored projects while performing clinical nursing responsibilities related to specific protocols. Daily operational oversight will involve regular monitoring of progress in relation to scope of work, negotiated budgets, delegation of responsibilities, and projects' progress from startup to completion. The role will involve clinical research responsibilities that include, but are not limited to: study start-up, regulatory monitoring, protocol adherence, staff supervision, patient/participant communication, client relations, resource allocation and prioritization, financial management, delegation of research activities, and patient safety reporting. The role will involve nursing responsibilities that include, but are not limited to: administration of study drugs, EKGs, and other procedures determined by protocols, biospecimen collection, and design of training materials and logistics for clinical staff associated with projects. This position is at-will and primarily grant funded, serving within the divisions of Cardiology and Pulmonology, and possibly others as needed/funded.

Essential Functions:

  • Manages and provides oversight for clinical trial and sponsored project activities and supervises team performance while monitoring for compliance with protocol and all applicable regulations (20%)
  • Financial management duties may include budget preparation, contract negotiation, purchasing/invoicing, monitoring expenditures against budget, reporting to funders and key stakeholders, and budget revisions or grant extensions. (20%)
  • Collaborates with study sponsors and funding agencies with regard to study design, conduct, and reporting. (20%)
  • Collaborates with offices of SPARO, Compliance, multiple IRBs and other internal stakeholders with regard to research administration and patient safety. (20%)
  • Oversees team of research personnel delegated to study portfolio. (10%)
  • Nursing duties as required by specific protocols (e.g., collection of blood and other biospecimens, administration of study drugs, EKGs or other procedures within scope of work). (5%)
  • Perform other duties as assigned. (5%)


Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree Nursing required.


Work Experience:

  • Two (2) years of nursing experience, including quality management experience or equivalent required.
  • Two (2) years of clinical research experience required.


Licenses:

  • RN-Registered Nurse - DORA - Department of Regulatory Agencies required.
  • BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association or American Red Cross required.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of clinical research processes and regulations, personnel and budget management, and patient safety principles in a patient care environment.
  • Knowledge of techniques, methods and competencies of clinical nursing practices.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of State and Federal Regulation as well as The Joint Commission Standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and direct/delegate activities as needed.
  • Ability to communicate and maintain effective working relationships with medical staff, research staff, collaborators, and other departments.
  • Ability to apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational skills to set priorities and ability to work with high degree of accuracy and attention to details while responding to tight deadlines and multiple priorities and demands.
  • Must be comfortable working with diverse populations.
  • Experience with electronic medical records systems, preferably Epic
  • Operating knowledge of Microsoft Office products
