Job Summary 
 
The Medical Director is responsible for managing the staff and day-to-day operations of Southeast Medical Center (SEMC), a new multispecialty outpatient location at Denver Health.  

The responsibilities of the Medical Director include ensuring high-quality patient care standards, developing and implementing clinical protocols, participating in improvement initiatives. This physician will also provide direct patient care.   
 
Essential Functions: 

  • Admit, evaluate, diagnose, treat, and provide consultation to adult patients with acute and chronic illnesses, including major and complicated, and perform procedures learned in training as outlined in the Denver Health and Hospital Authority General Internal Medicine Clinical Privileges documentation. (30%)  
  • Provide preventative and therapeutic care for adult patients. This includes admit patients, preventative care, acute care, care of injured persons, management of chronic illnesses. (20%)  
  • Supervise house staff in providing care for patients in ambulatory and inpatient settings (10%)
  • Responsible for oversight of management of staff and operations of federally qualified health center portion of SEMC at Denver Health. Assists in recruiting providers as needed. (20%)
  • Works closely with Department Chairs, division leaders and operational partners to provide oversight of overall day-to-day clinical team and activities. Functions as a part of the core leadership team along with RN manager and operations manager. (10%)
  • Other responsibilities and duties as assigned. (10%)

 
Education: 

  • Doctorate Degree Required  
  • Board Certification in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine required  

Work Experience: 

  • At least 3 years of outpatient clinic experience with demonstrated leadership qualities and evidence of leading initiatives at the clinic or division level, or oversight of advanced practice providers. 

 
Licenses: 

  • BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association or American Red Cross Required and
  • Active Colorado Medical License and
  • Active DEA license

 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • Has adequate knowledge and skill of all privileged procedures as outlined in the Denver Health and Hospital Authority General Internal Medicine Clinical Privileges documentation. 
  • Knowledge and interest in multi-disciplinary ambulatory care, ability to work in teams and motivate physicians and other providers to improve quality, patient experience and operational efficiency. 
  • Communicate effectively with a wide variety of staff as well as administration. 
  • Possess critical thinking, analytical and teaching/coaching skills. 
  • Able to effectively manage and direct medical staff while providing quality medical care 
  • Able to analyze, interpret and act upon relevant clinical and financial data that pertain to the practice. 
  • Able to receive detailed information through oral communications; express or exchange ideas by verbal communications. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communications, listening, and social skills. 
  • Able to interact effectively with people of varied educational, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds, skill levels and value systems. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships. 
  • Ability to accept and implement change. 
  • Demonstrated history of positive collegial relations with colleagues, support staff, providers, administrators and patients. 
  • Computer skills required.
