Job Summary

Provides care to pregnant and birthing individuals throughout the childbearing cycle including antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and neonatal care. Provides primary health care services from adolescence through menopause including the provision of gynecologic and family planning services, diagnosis and treatment of illnesses, health promotion, disease prevention, and individualized wellness education and counseling. Supervises and teaches students and residents in the clinical setting. May perform administrative support functions as required.

Essential Functions:
  • Evaluates and monitors health condition of patient in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, according to standards of care and current clinical practice guidelines. Refers to specialty services as needed. (15%)
  • Assesses the health status of patients by performance of medical record review, thorough health history, and physical examination (15%)
  • Orders and interprets diagnostic tests and provides patient care accordingly (10%)
  • Admits and discharges patients to and from hospital inpatient care (10%)
  • Performs gynecologic and obstetrical procedures within scope of expertise including but not limited to provision of long-acting, reversible contraceptives and limited OB ultrasound (10%)
  • Prescribes medications including controlled substances and contraceptives (10%)
  • Completes required clinical documentation in an accurate, thorough, and timely manner (10%)
  • Supports patient autonomy in decision making through education about health condition and treatment options (10%)
  • Teaches and supervises midwifery, nurse-practitioner, and medical students, and residents in the clinical setting (10%)
  • Participates in clinical education of healthcare students as seen fit by supervising medical staff. (0%)

Education:
  • Master's Degree Graduate of a nationally accredited midwife degree program Required

Work Experience:
  • 1-3 years Inpatient and outpatient midwifery care Required

Licenses:
  • CNM-Certified Nurse Midwife - AMCB - American Midwifery Certification Board Required and
  • NRP-Neonatal Resuscitation Program - AHA - American Heart Association Required and
  • BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association Required and
  • DEAREG-DEA Registration - DEA - Drug Enforcement Agency Required and
  • CNM-Certified Nurse Midwife - DORA - Department of Regulatory Agencies Required and
  • CNMRXN-Nurse Midwife Prescriber - DORA - Department of Regulatory Agencies Required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge base consistent with core competencies of basic midwifery practice.
  • Prescribes medications including controlled substances, contraceptives, and hormone therapy
  • Skill translating scientific evidence to clinical practice.
  • Skill in diagnostic and treatment techniques
  • Skill in empathic communication and trauma informed care
  • Ability to educate other employees, midwifery students, nurse-practitioner students, medical students and residents in the clinical setting.
  • Ability to exercise initiative and judgment in selecting proper treatment.
  • Ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations.
  • Knowledge of electronic health record systems preferred, specifically EPIC.
