Department Specific Job Details:
1. Trauma Registry Data Abstraction & Entry into the Trauma Registry
Generate a list of trauma patients meeting national, state, regional and hospital inclusion criteria.
Abstracts and enters required patient data in the trauma registry software in accordance with the patients to be included in the trauma registry.
Utilizes AIS, E-Codes & ICD 10 coding accurately on each trauma patient entered into the trauma registry software.
Runs detailed reports from the Trauma registry software to support the needs of the trauma program and the ACS verification requirements, to include but not limited to, quality, injury prevention and research.
Identifies performance improvement issues during chart abstraction based on the Trauma PI Indicators and reports them to the Trauma PI Coordinator.
Submits reports to national, state and regional registries as required by trauma designation and TQIP benchmarking requirements.
Works collaboratively with members of the trauma team and outside the trauma team to ensure data quality and completion of patient records.
2. Injury Data Collection & Analysis
Collects injury data from EMR reports separately from data entered into the trauma registry
software using the definitions assigned.
Provides analysis of the injury data for use in quality, injury prevention and research initiatives.
Supports Safe Kids of the Greater Dayton area with injury data and analysis to notify key
stakeholders of pediatric injury trends.
Supports marketing with data as requested.
3. Preparation for American College of Surgeons (ACS)
Assures all data for ACS is concurrent and data validation is complete.
Develops reports to support the pre-Review Questionnaire (PRQ) as requested by the Trauma Program Manager.
Supports the data needs of the ACS review team when in the ACS verification visit.
Assists in the pulling and preparing of patient records as directed by the Trauma Program Manager as requested by the ACS review team.
4. Completion and Maintenance of ACS Trauma Registry Education Requirements
Per the ACS Standards, the Trauma Registry Data Specialist will participate in and maintain the required education listed.
Maintain ICD-10 certification every 5 years.
Participate in the AAAM AIS Course.
Participate in a trauma registry course as defined by the ACS Standards.
Accrue at least 24 hours of trauma related continuing education during each verification cycle.
Obtain CAISS certification within 3 years and maintain therefore after.
5. Performs other duties as assigned
