About this role

Overview

Provides technical assistance and guidance in the preparation, submission, processing, and management of research grant and contract proposals. Reviews, negotiates, and accepts awards and agreements on behalf of researchers and the institution. Ensures that the administration of sponsored programs is compliant with sponsor terms/conditions, institutional policies and procedures, and government rules and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Supports departmental research administrators and faculty with the review and submittal of grant and contract proposals, just-in-time materials, progress report materials, prior approval requests, and non-financial close-out materials to maintain accuracy, completeness and compliance with applicable policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Facilitates compliance with necessary collaborating offices (such as Institutional Review Board, Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, Environmental Health and Safety, Compliance and Audit Services and Research Finance) throughout the lifecycle of the sponsored project.
  • Submits grant and contract proposal materials on behalf of the institution as allowed within Signature Authority Policy.
  • Identifies and disseminates active grant funding opportunities to the research community.
  • Reviews and negotiates terms and conditions of awards/contracts on behalf of Dartmouth-Hitchcock with sponsors, liaising with departmental research administrators and faculty as necessary.
  • Sets up, maintains, and closes award accounts within the pre-award and post-award systems.
  • Represents D-H by addressing any research administration related inquires/requests with sponsors.
  • Trains and mentors departmental research administrators on operational, service and compliance aspects of administering sponsored awards.
  • Assists Research Finance with creation of policies, procedures, and training materials to reinforce institutional standards for administering sponsored awards.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.
  • Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or the equivalent in education and experience required.
    • Five (5) years research administration work experience required.
    • Certification in Research Administration preferred
    • Experience in a healthcare or academic research administration setting and knowledge of electronic research administration systems
    • Working knowledge of federal regulations relating to grants, contracts, and research compliance a well as non-federal sponsored research
    • Ability to work effectively, independently and as a member of a team.
    • Ability to exercise judgment, initiative, and discretion and to interact with staff and outside agencies in a professional manner.
    • Technological proficiency including email, calendars, databases, and Office suite
    • Excellent communication, organization, and customer service skills
