The Department of Surgery at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH seeks an Advanced Practice Provider to support our Colorectal Surgery division. The Colorectal Surgery (CRS) APP will collaborate closely with the multidisciplinary colorectal cancer team, including colorectal surgeons, gastroenterology, medical and radiation oncologists, nursing, social work, and other allied health providers care for patients in the outpatient setting, reduce clinical backlog, and enhance operational workflows. This clinical role will focus on early access for urgent patients in need of specialist and seamless continuity of high-quality care throughout the entire continuum of complex, benign, and malignant disease management—from diagnosis through post-surgical surveillance. You will have the unique opportunity to shape the future of colorectal care in our institution by integrating patient-focused clinical care with essential systems-level improvements.

 

This is a full-time position, Monday-Friday, with flexibility to a four- or five-day work week. There are no call or weekend responsibilities.

 

Position Highlights:

 

  • Provide direct patient care in the outpatient setting, with a focus on anorectal disease management and long-term cancer surveillance.
  • Conduct new patient consultations, follow-ups, and procedural visits.
  • Potential for OR first assist (PA or RNFA-certification required).
  • Serve as a point-of-contact for patients navigating complex care pathways, including surgery, neoadjuvant/adjuvant therapy, and watch-and-wait protocols.
  • Dedicated triage management and review of urgent referrals, both benign and malignant, for completeness, urgency, and complexity, ensuring timely and assist secretaries in appropriate scheduling.
  • Coordinate with referring providers, radiology, pathology, and scheduling teams to ensure all necessary diagnostics are completed pre-consult.
  • Triage urgent patient calls, creating a clear, reliable point of contact for colorectal surgeons.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
  • Current licensure (PA-C or NP) and ability to practice in the state.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and critical thinking skills.

 

Preferred:

  • 2–3 years of clinical experience in surgery, oncology, or colorectal care strongly preferred.
  • Experience in program development, care coordination, or quality improvement.
  • Proven ability to navigate multidisciplinary teams and systems.
