Position Summary

The Simulation Technician is responsible for providing technical and mechanical support for the Ning Zhao & Ge Li Simulation Center. This role involves managing audiovisual equipment, inventory, maintenance, and setup, as well as supporting computer software and ensuring the proper care and usage of manikins and other simulation equipment. The technician adheres to industry standards and best practices to facilitate effective simulation training.

Minimum Job Qualifications

Education Required: Associate’s degree or equivalent experience

Education Preferred: Bachelor’s degree

Area of Study Required: None

Area of Study Preferred: None

Experience Required: Minimum of 1 year in healthcare simulation, including technical support and maintenance of simulation equipment.

Experience Preferred: Experience with Laerdal products is preferred.

License/Certification/Registration Required: None required

License/Certification/Registration Preferred: Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHOS)

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintains current knowledge of simulation equipment catalogs and operation manuals; sets up, operates, and takes down simulation equipment, ensuring all systems are functional and up to date.
  • Programs simulator software to model physiological responses as per instructor specifications; operates patient simulators and cameras during simulations.
  • Operates and maintains audiovisual and debriefing systems; troubleshoots and repairs simulation equipment, including patient simulators, computers, monitors, and various medical devices; liaises with vendors as needed.
  • Communicates effectively with instructors, facilitators, administrative staff, and simulation center personnel; collaborates with manufacturers and the Dana-Farber Biomedical department for maintenance, repairs, updates, and technology changes.
  • Provides technical support for healthcare equipment, specifically manikins, but also beds, headwalls, patient monitors, medication dispensing systems, and code carts. Offers costuming and moulage for simulation scenarios when applicable.
  • Collaborates with supervisor to coordinate simulation-center scheduling, prevent conflicts, and organize, maintain, and restock simulation supplies; provides recommendations on equipment, supplies, and materials.
  • Collects data for ongoing research, grant requests, and internal usage while maintaining learner confidentiality; provides technical assistance, support, and training to instructors, facilitators, and staff in using simulation equipment; performs other job-related duties as required.

Pay Transparency Statement

The hiring range is based on market pay structures, with individual salaries determined by factors such as business needs, market conditions, internal equity, and based on the candidate’s relevant experience, skills and qualifications.

For union positions, the pay range is determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
