The Impact You'll Make In This Role:

The Utility Worker is responsible to assist plant personnel in safe performance of maintenance and operational tasks as directed.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

This list is developed to demonstrate the level of duties normally performed by this classification and to develop a related wage rate.  This list is a representative list of duties but not a total list of what may be assigned.

1.    Lubricate, oil, and perform preventative maintenance testing as assigned.

2.    Assist with performance testing, boiler, turbine equipment.

3.    Assist plant maintenance and operational personnel as assigned wherever qualified.

4.    Operate plant mobile equipment - - bridge cranes, forklifts, end-loaders, and bobcat.

5.    Assist crafts with equipment overhauls and preventative maintenance.

6.    Change air handler filters, clean vents, radiators, assist in replacement of dust collection filter bags as assigned.

7.    Operate vacuum truck and associated cleaning equipment; (manual transmission vehicles)

8.    Assist in all aspects of fuel handling processes.

9.    Re-lamp plant lighting systems.

10.    Clean building floors, sumps, tanks, motors, precipitator and ductwork as assigned.

11.    Collect coal samples as assigned.

12.    Assist operations when valving major equipment as assigned.

13.    Clean coal handling facilities.

14.    Assist in erection and disassembly of scaffolding as assigned.

15.    Assist in operation of coal-handling equipment as assigned and running of coal.

16.    Remove and assist in reinstallation of insulation and flashing as assigned.

17.    Perform grounds and minor building maintenance.

18.    Strip and refinish floors as trained.

19.    Perform minor vehicle preventative maintenance, check oil, water, tire pressure and repairs/corrective action.

20.    Surface preparation and painting as trained/assigned.

21.    Operate snow removal equipment.

22.    Operate water truck for dust control purposes.

23.    Complete all assigned work orders and other documents.

24.    Follow all safety and job procedures.

25.    Assist in all aspects of ash disposal process as assigned.

26.    Assist crafts when installing tubing, conduit, cable and piping.

27.    Perform safety equipment maintenance and testing.

28.    Assist in boiler de-slagging and cleaning.

29.    Assist in air heater cleaning as assigned.

30.    Perform janitorial duties as assigned.

31.    Responsible for lock-out/tag-out procedures as directed.
 

Your Experience and Expertise:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience: High school diploma or GED.  Trade related experience (plant maintenance/operation, coal handling, or heavy equipment) beneficial.

Skills: Read/comprehend procedures, operator and safety manuals, inspection reports, etc.  Communicate in writing (inspection reports, work requests).

Licenses and Certifications: Maintain valid driver’s license. Possess and retain valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License.

Physical Demands:   Sit, walk, kneel, crouch/stoop, lift (up to 30 lbs. and occasionally 75 lbs.), squat, crawl, twist upper body, climb hand-over-hand, bend, and reach/stretch.  Push/Pull requirement of up to 250 lbs. of force to maneuver the high-pressure water hose and the 6" vacuum hose.  Operate vacuum truck, skid steer, forklift, end-loader, riding lawn mower, all-terrain vehicle, tractor, pickup, electric hand tools, weed eater, chain saw, drill press, power hack saw and sand blaster.  Ability to drive manual transmission vehicles.  Ability to use/manipulate broom, mop, shovel, fire hose, ladder, vacuum hose and wand.  Ability to be respirator certified.

Environmental Demands:  Work indoors and outdoors, occasionally in extreme cold, heat, and noise.  Frequently work around mechanical, electrical, dust, fume/odor (paint), and explosive hazards. Work at heights off the ground.

Other Job Characteristics: Off-duty availability, emergency call-in.  Moderate supervision. Frequent interaction with train crews. Willingness to work with heavy equipment or machinery.
