Summary 

The IT Security Internship is a position for the individual to learn different security responsibilities and techniques within the organization. These techniques can include monitoring computer and network systems, helping create security documentation, and working with individuals on security related tickets or incidents.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 

  • Participates in the daily monitoring, investigating, remediation and reporting of security related events in the organization.
  • Helps identify and addresses computer vulnerabilities in internal servers, external servers, and applications. Especially for updates or patching of said systems.
  • Helps ensure that all servers and other IT related equipment is hardened for compliance and/or industry standards.
  • Helps ensure the organization maintains a successful compliance of PCI, SOX, and any other compliance requirements.
  • Ensures that all information security processes and workflows are up to date and appropriately documented in the organizations knowledge base system.
  • Improves information security posture through the application of findings from investigation of security incidents.
  • Helps ensure all levels of internal IT staff and employees are provided with relevant trainings on security matters.
  • Stays up to date on information technology trends, security standards and news.
  • Responds to internal IT and employees’ queries either in person, via ticking system or over the phone.
  • Perform remote troubleshooting through diagnostic techniques and pertinent questions.
  • Provide accurate information on IT products or services.
  • Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential.
  • Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is consider a part time hourly position. Work hours are flexible based on weekly schedule decided upon between the employee and manager. Hours not to exceed 28 hours week over week.

Education and/or Experience

At least one year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Mathematical Skills

Good with basic math. Must possess the ability to make mathematical computations with accuracy. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
