About this role

The Director of Classroom & Learning Technologies provides strategic and operational leadership for all technology that supports teaching and learning across the Omaha and Phoenix campuses. This role oversees the design, implementation, lifecycle management, and support of classroom AV systems, hybrid/flex environments, learning technologies, lecture capture, and digital pedagogical tools. Working closely with faculty, academic leadership, and IT teams, the Director ensures that instructional spaces are modern, reliable, standardized, and aligned with the university’s academic mission and faculty needs. This position leads a team of AV engineers, technologists, and support specialists and plays a key role in planning large-scale modernization projects, developing technology standards, and delivering exceptional faculty support.

Essential Functions:

  • Strategic Leadership & Academic Technology Roadmaps
    •    Defines Creighton’s university-wide strategy for classroom AV, instructional technology, and digital learning environments.
    •    Develops multi-year roadmaps for classroom modernization, standardization, and refresh cycles.
    •    Aligns learning technology strategy with academic priorities, pedagogical innovation, and institutional goals.
     
  • Classroom Technology Architecture & Engineering
    •    Owns the engineering standards for classroom AV, control systems, projection/display technologies, audio systems, lecture capture, digital signage, and room automation.
    •    Leads design and integration work for new construction, renovation projects, and learning-space upgrades.
    •    Ensures AV systems adhere to modern interoperability, automation, and accessibility requirements.
     
  • Project Leadership & Capital Planning
    •    Leads classroom modernization projects from concept through completion, including design, engineering, installation oversight, validation, and documentation.
    •    Collaborates with Facilities, Planning, and external integrators on design specifications and construction coordination.
    •    Prepares capital forecasts, budget proposals, and long-range investment plans for academic technology infrastructure.
     
  • Academic Collaboration & Innovation
    •    Partners with members of CCAT that includes faculty, deans to understand pedagogical needs and translate them into scalable technology solutions.
    •    Works with simulation programs, professional schools, and specialized labs to design advanced instructional technology environments.
    •    Evaluates emerging technologies in hybrid learning, active learning spaces, and digital collaboration.
     
  • Team Leadership & Development
    •    Leads classroom technology engineering teams and AV technologists.
    •    Develops staff capabilities in AV engineering, system design, automation, programming, and lifecycle planning.
    •    Fosters a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and academic partnership.

Qualifications:

•    Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Engineering, or related field (master’s preferred).
•    7+ years of experience in AV, instructional technology, or IT systems supporting teaching and learning. 
•    Experience in technology governance, lifecycle planning, and vendor management at an enterprise scale.
•    Strong background in enterprise networking concepts (VLANs, QoS, multicast) and security practices.
•    Demonstrated ability to lead architectural planning aligned with institutional goals and ITIL frameworks.
•    Strong knowledge of AV/UC platforms (Extron, Q-SYS, Webex/Zoom/Teams), hybrid/flex environments, and learning technologies.
•    Proven ability to work effectively with faculty and academic stakeholders.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

•    Deep knowledge of classroom audiovisual systems, AV-over-IP, control systems, and instructional technology platforms.
•    Knowledge of project management methodologies and AV design standards (e.g., AVIXA).
•    Leadership skills for directing multidisciplinary AV and instructional technology teams.
•    Ability to coach, mentor, and lead technical staff across Tier 3 and Tier 4 support models.
•    Strong planning, prioritization, and multi-project coordination skills.
•    Strong vendor negotiation, contract review, and cross-department collaboration experience.
•    Training and presentation skills for faculty onboarding and technology adoption.
•    Ability to translate academic needs into scalable and maintainable technology solutions.
