Core Functions

The Water Network Attendant Coach is responsible for delivering technical support across all wastewater collection and drinking water distribution networks. Operating in compliance with the regional Drinking Water Quality By-law, the Coach must ensure that all networks are properly maintained, fully operational, and that maintenance, operations, and repairs are carried out in accordance with established standards and regulations.

 

Functional Responsibilities:

  • Respond to requests for water‑leak detection and provide full support for corrective repairs.
  • Assist with troubleshooting water system issues, implementing maintenance schedules, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
  • Perform and support comprehensive water‑leak detection and repair services, including identifying the source of leaks, assessing the extent of damage, implementing corrective measures, and ensuring long‑term system integrity.
  • Recommending maintenance schedules for equipment.
  • Offer best practices for monitoring system performance, identifying early warning signs, and documenting maintenance activities.
  • Offer guidance on preventive maintenance practices.
  • Track performance, identify areas for improvement, and prepare regular progress reports for stakeholders.
  • Promote and ensure adherence to water safety regulations, environmental standards, and workplace safety protocols.
  • Validate that all sampling is done according to schedule and current norms.
  • Validate with operators that the chosen water‑sampling points on the pressurized network are correct, accessible, and appropriate for testing.
  • Ensure attendants follow safety regulations, emergency procedures and operational guidelines. 

Training Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support to operators regarding network flushing.
  • Train and assist community operators on operation and maintenance for fire-hydrants.
  • Train and assist community water operators on operation and maintenance of lift-stations and pumping stations. 
  • Maintain records of training sessions and incidents.
  • Coordinate OPA and OCARE trainings.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge and skills in area(s) of responsibility.
  • Perform other duties as required.

 

Qualifications

 

Education

  • College diploma or certificate in Water Treatment.

 

Experience:

  •  Five years of relevant work experience.

 

Language:

  • Fluency in English.
  • Fluency in Cree is an asset.
  • Fluency in French is an asset.

 

Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of operation, maintenance, and repair of networks.
  • Strong knowledge of Quebec drinking water regulations.
  • Customer-focused and service-oriented.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong judgment and proven ability to problem-solve.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently.
  • Hands-on oriented.
  • Knowledge of the northern conditions and realities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and to adapt to a changing environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products and AutoCAD.

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Willingness to travel frequently (once a month).
  • Work in remote locations.
  • Have a valid driving license.

 

The Cree Nation Government may, at its discretion, waive any or all of the requirements if a suitable candidate who is a JBNQA beneficiary accepts to follow a training plan determined by the Cree Nation Government as a condition of employment.
