Job Summary:
The Sr. Cost Accountant directs the preparation, updating and cost performance analysis of Manufacturing overhead budgets and financial reporting, in addition to providing detailed estimates and analysis of labor and material costs in support of proposal pricing, customer audits and work-in-process fiscal control. The Cost Accountant also manages the standard cost accounting system including identifying problems and initiating system improvements.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform planning and budgeting support activities; prepare and summarize detail department work papers and supporting documentation for planning, reporting and budgeting

  • Analyze general and administrative, overhead, direct labor and direct material cost performance

  • Review and correct cost performance and accounting record variances

  • Provide estimates of costs to complete current programs

  • Analyze month-end variances, production work-in-progress and shipments

  • Provide appropriate data in response to customer audits or inquiries

  • Prepare justification and performance review of manufacturing overhead budgets

  • Prepare, analyze and update bills of material

  • Analyze labor history trends and adjust to proposal requirements using learning curve factors, judgment, etc.

  • Respond to special requests from manufacturing management for other fiscal reports or information

  • Conduct operations audits

  • Assist in year-end physicals and/or cycle count inventory issues; Prepare and reconcile reports, as needed

  • Participate in Month-End closing activities

  • Complete journal entries

  • Determine classification and validity of variances and overall inventory valuation

  • Participate in data collection and research to reduce inventory levels on a monthly basis; communicate possible inventory improvements with Operations

  • Any other task assigned by supervisor or management

Non-Essential Functions:

  • May assist other accounting team members as needed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience: 5+ years of applicable experience in cost accounting or related area

  • Knowledge: Knowledge of Sarbanes Oxley; Knowledge of financial systems and budget process; Knowledge of manufacturing methods and processes utilized in a high technology manufacturing operation;

  • Skills/Abilities: Ability to organize and present financial data in a clear and concise manner; Ability to effectively express self orally and in writing to prepare comprehensive analyses, recommendations and reports; Understanding of the interrelationships among Division and Corporate information systems; Ability to spot and correct information systems problems; Excellent PC skills, including Microsoft Office; Ability to analyze data and interpret financial implication to the organization; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal staff and outside professionals

  • Education/Certification: BA or BS degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or related degree 

  • Eligibility Requirement: This position may require access to Controlled Data or Information. Where the position requires such access only US Persons will be considered. As a US Department of Defense contractor, we are bound by International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).


Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA

  • CMA or CPA preferred

  • Experience in an environment with emphasis in government & military pricing preferred (EAC Accounting)

  • Cost Accounting Standards (CAS) & Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) Experience

  • Background in cost accounting, including design of cost collection and control systems

Salary range: $100,900.00 to 123,600.00. Several factors contribute to actual salary, including experience in a similar role or performing comparable job responsibilities, skills, training, and other qualifications. Some roles may be eligible for participation in performance-based bonus programs.
