Full Time, 80 Hours Per Pay Period, Day Shift

Will oversee all Thompson Lab operations, travel to sites required as needed.

Position Summary:

The Manager of Laboratory Services will provide administrative oversight for laboratory personnel.  This includes assistance during licensure surveys, process improvement projects, development of policies and procedures, assistance with workflow issues, etc.  Responsible for ensuring that appropriate training occurs with new lab personnel and that all applicable competencies are completed. Ensures cost-effective, quality testing occurs. Responsible for the oversight of the functions of the Technical Supervisor as defined by CLIA.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with and provides oversight for test methodologies appropriate for the clinical use of test results. These decisions are made in conjunction with leadership.
  • Assists with and provides oversight for the verification of test procedures performed and establishes the test performance characteristics, including the precision and accuracy of each test and system.
  • Primarily establishes a quality control program appropriate for the tests performed and establishes the parameters for acceptable levels of analytic performance. Ensures that these levels are maintained throughout the entire testing process.
  • Develops, implements and adheres to laboratory quality control policies, ensures documentation of all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performance. Reviews and evaluates data on a routine basis.
  • Ensures that patient results are not reported until all corrective actions have been taken and the test system is functioning properly.
  • Identifies training needs and assures that each individual performing tests receives appropriate, regular in-service training including initial orientation and required clinical laboratory competencies.
  • Resolves technical problems and ensures that remedial actions are taken whenever test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications, and documents all actions.
  • Provides input and participates in decision process for new equipment/capital purchases related to lab.
  • Assists with Personnel Management as needed (evaluations, interviewing, training, etc.).
  • Oversees reference laboratory processes, including specimen transport, logging, resulting and invoicing.
  • Directs the evaluation and implementation of new tests and new laboratory related processes.
  • Assists in the resolution of issues concerning work flow.
  • Provides assistance with computer system support (daily maintenance, trouble-shooting, etc.) as needed.
  • Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:           

None specified; however, must be sufficient to meet the standards for achievement of the below indicated license and/or certification as required by the issuing authority. Master’s degree preferred.

 

Minimum Experience:         

Five (5) years clinical laboratory experience including familiarity with computer systems, medical terminology and phlebotomy. Two (2) years of managerial/supervisory experience.

 

Licensure Requirement:      

Must have and maintain State of Tennessee Medical Technologist licensure. Supervisor’s License is preferred.

 

Physical Requirements:       

Must successfully pass color blindness test.
