Salary Range: $22.70 - $34.17/hourly

WHO WILL I BE WORKING WITH?
This posting is for a Inspector II position on the Residential Plan Review Team. This position will perform plan review on the various types of residential projects that are governed under the NC Residential Code and require plan review per MCCE policy. This is an office position in a Team environment with minimal time in the field on construction sites. This position interacts with Contractors, Architects, Engineers, Homeowners, and other Agencies related to residential plan review projects. Customer interactions are typically on the phone and via email, with occasional in person interactions.
Position Summary
Perform complex inspections of residential related properties for compliance with all applicable codes.
This position, under minimal supervision, is responsible for reviewing plans, approving construction
documents and issuing permits; and may perform investigations in response to fires or public complaints.
Essential Functions
Perform comprehensive complex field inspections (non-fire) on construction projects to ensure
compliance with all applicable codes
Issue notices of violations, including stop work orders and follows-up to ensure issue has been
addressed
Investigate complaints about potential code violations or in response to a specific incident
Meet with architects, engineers, contractors and other individuals throughout the course of the
design and construction of projects
Prepare and analyze inspection reports to include collecting data and writing reports
Provides advice to design professionals, homeowners, the public and contractors regarding code
compliance, applicable procedures, and other related issues
Serve on committees, task forces, and other teams as requested
Make sure that customer solutions, practices, and procedures are carried out and achieve their
objectives
Complete assigned inspections to meet the customer’s schedule
May assist fire personnel at emergency incidents
As applicable, provide front office support, which may include: answering telephones and
providing information to callers; periodically staffing service points that require in-person
interactions with customers or staff; and/or, performing other related activities.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience:
Minimum of two years of inspection experience or four years in a construction trade.
Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent and one year of specialized training or technical training.

Licenses and Certifications
Ability to obtain a Level I trade certifications in three trades or Level II certification in one trade
and one level I certification in a second trade within one year of hire
Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver's License
Requires County Driving Privileges
Annual Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check required
Some positions may require a Fire Inspectors/Investigator license
Preferred Qualifications
Associates degree in Construction, Engineering, Planning or related field
Standard Certificate in the Building Trade
Experience reading and/or creating construction blueprints for single-family, residential projects
Experience in clear communication (written & verbal) to internal & external Customers explaining complex requirements and processes
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of
All applicable building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, fire and related codes
Applicable rules, laws and regulations;
Practices and procedures related to plan review
