GENERAL DEFINITION:
This is supervisory operations work in a County facility. A position in this class plans, assigns and reviews the work of a medium-size staff. Work includes preparing work schedules, inspecting completed work, training lower-level staff and carrying out various personnel and administrative functions. A position in this class is differentiated from those in related classes by the responsibility for accomplishing specific facility operations. A position in this class reports directly to an administrative Operations Manager.
TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK:
- Reviews facility operation needs, develops priorities and schedules based on needs; informs personnel and/or work leaders of established job schedules and priorities; plans and assigns jobs; assists with problems encountered. Inspects work in progress and accomplished. May interview and recommend applicants for employment; trains new employees about specific operational materials, equipment and standard procedures. Approves leave requests; evaluates performance; resolves problems; takes disciplinary action or refers to higher-level administrative personnel.
- Maintains materials, equipment, stock and supply levels for specific operations; recommends equipment and/or materials to purchase. Maintains records of incidents, accidents or problems about specific facility operations. Provides information and estimates for use in budget development and administration; reviews specific operational areas to assess overall condition, proper maintenance and procedure of operation.
- Performs related work as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Thorough knowledge of specific operational procedures commonly used in County facilities.
- Knowledge of operational goals, objectives, principles and practices.
- Knowledge of methods and techniques commonly employed in the supervision of a medium-size group of operational personnel.
- Ability to understand, follow, and give oral and written instructions.
- Ability to instruct workers in the application of sound facility operation procedures.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, other facility staff, patients and their visitors.
ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- Education equivalent to completion of the twelfth school grade.
- Three to four years experience in facility operations, one year which shall have been at a lead-worker level in a hospital of similar institution.
- Or any equivalent combination of acceptable training and experience which has provided the knowledge, skills and abilities cited above.
