Temporary Part-time PSW Nursing Student

The County of Elgin is looking for students who have successfully completed their first year of a Nursing program to work as a Personal Support Worker over the summer at Terrace Lodge! 

Terrace Lodge is a 100-bed long-term care home in the Township of Malahide. Our home is situated in beautiful Elgin County and features private and semi-private accommodation with 24-hour nursing care. Outdoor areas to relax with family, as well as living and dining areas, are available for resident enjoyment. A host of entertainment and recreational programs, animal-assisted therapy, spiritual care, and exercise programming are available.

Position Title: PSW Nursing Student

Type: Temporary, Part-time

Compensation: $30.87/hour as per collective agreement

About the Role:

As a PSW Nursing Student, you will work alongside our Personal Support Workers to provide daily care to all residents in accordance with established routine procedures.

Your responsibilities include:

• Providing personal care such as bathing, dressing, and transfers
• Assisting with meals and nutrition support
• Tidying resident rooms and common areas
• Performing minor treatments and reporting health observations
• Responding to call bells with attentiveness and empathy
• Participating in care planning through daily reports
• Supporting inclusive, respectful, and equitable care delivery
• Additional duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Must have successfully completed 1^st year of a Nursing program from a recognized post-secondary institution.
• Must have completed school placements in a long-term care home, hospital, or community setting.
• Must provide proof of returning to full-time post-secondary school in Fall 2026.
• Experience in Geriatrics or equivalent.
• Demonstrates a commitment to the delivery of safe, efficient care to the personal needs of residents.

• Current Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening that is satisfactory to the County of Elgin.
• Satisfactory 2-step Tuberculosis (TB) screening documentation.
