Hours: approx. 35 hours per week, hours will vary including weekends

About the Role:

The Tourism Assistant will play a key role in promoting tourism in Elgin County, specifically Port Stanley. The successful candidate will provide exceptional customer service to visitors, ensuring they have accurate and engaging information about local activities, events, and attractions. This role requires self-motivation, organizational skills, and the ability to work independently following the training period.

Responsibilities will include:

• Provide information to tourists on local activities and events in-person, via telephone, and through email correspondence.
• Maintain a friendly and approachable demeanor when interacting with visitors.
• Ensure the location is fully staffed as scheduled and monitor personal attendance and punctuality.
• Maintain an adequate supply of brochures and travel literature, ensuring all materials are well-organized and up to date. Other administrative duties as assigned.
• Use computer software such as word processing, Canva and spreadsheets for various tasks.
• Update the tourism website, including the calendar of events and creation of new pages.

Qualifications:

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in computer software, including word processing and spreadsheets.
• Ability to work independently and make decisions regarding the daily operations of the Visitor Centre.
• Currently enrolled or a recent graduate of post-secondary education
• Previous customer service or tourism-related experience is an asset.
