Door County is proud to be a premier place to live, work, and visit. We serve nearly 30,000 year-round residents and a vibrant seasonal population by providing essential services that support and protect the people, economy, and environment of the beautiful Door Peninsula.
Within the County organization, the Facilities & Parks Department is responsible for maintaining, preserving, and managing county buildings, grounds, and park lands. The department ensures that facilities are safe, functional, and accessible for employees and the public, and that county parks remain well-maintained spaces for recreation and community use.
The department is committed to protecting public open spaces and natural areas through thoughtful stewardship, restoration, and long-term planning. Its work supports the ecological health of county lands and helps ensure that residents and visitors can enjoy Door County’s parks and facilities now and in the future.
To continue this important work, we are seeking a candidate who will perform the responsibilities outlined in the job summary and contribute to our efforts in serving the community.
This seasonal field-based position supports the safety, cleanliness, and regulatory compliance of Door County’s public parks. The role performs patrols and security duties from May through October, focusing on ordinance enforcement, public engagement, and monitoring environmental and facility conditions. The position operates under limited supervision and plays a key role in maintaining a safe and welcoming experience for park patrons.
Work is performed almost exclusively outdoors, with exposure to diverse weather conditions. The role involves extended periods of walking, standing, bending, kneeling, and occasional lifting of materials up to 50 pounds. The employee may encounter noise from park activities, minor chemical exposure from cleaning materials, and mechanical or environmental hazards mitigated by safety procedures. Evening shifts and travel between County parks are required.
In an effort to provide for continuity of County government and to cope with the problems of the emergency, you may be required to work during a proclaimed state of emergency, consistent with Sec. 323.14, Wis. Stats. and County emergency management plans and programs.
