Job Summary

Assists in overseeing and directing the work flow of the Sterile Processing Technicians as well as equipment and supply issues in work area in accordance with established policies, procedures and Association of Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) standards. Provides input into the staff evaluations and assists with staff development on shift, as appropriate. Acts as a role model and resource to peers and other members of the health care team related to processing of equipment, instruments, and supplies.

Essential Functions

  • Oversees and provides daily work directions to Sterile Processing Technicians responsible for inspecting, disinfecting, assembling, processing and distributing patient care instruments, equipment and supplies.
  • Assist with staff assignments to maintain adequate workflow to meet changing needs daily.
  • Assist supervisor with performance evaluations, goal setting, and performance improvement. Acts as a role model and resource to peers and provides mentoring and support to subordinate staff to ensure effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Performs the function of a Sterile Processing Technician including inspecting, disinfecting, assembling, processing and distributing patient care instruments, equipment, an supplies.
  • • Accurately differentiates between instruments functionality and its specialty. Monitors performance of sterilizers, sonic, utensil
  • washers and other equipment and fills out repair requisitions as necessary.
  • Actively participates in safety initiatives and risk mitigating measures where appropriate and completes all position and unit safety related competencies and requirements on a timely basis.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

  • High School or equivalent
  • Certified Sterile Processing Distribution Tech (CSPDT) – CBSPD or Registered Central Services Technician, Certified (CRCST) upon hire
  • At least one of the following: Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS), Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER), Certified Healthcare Leader (CHL), Flexible Endoscope Reprocessor (CFER), Certified in Sterile Processing Management (CSPM)

Preferred

  • 3 years of relevant experience
