Short Description

  • Inspects and performs minor maintenance and repair of electrical wiring circuits and equipment including pneumatic tube system.
  • Inspects and performs minor maintenance and repair of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systems.
  • Inspects and performs minor maintenance and repair of plumbing systems.
  • Inspects and performs all phases of maintenance, renovations new construction and repair to the building systems in accordance with manufacturers specifications and established practices.
  • Reads and interprets construction blueprints, manufacturer's instructions to construct and/or assemble or install new equipment.
  • Observes and adheres to safety and other regulations and practices and contributes to a positive work climate and overall team effort of the department. To include lock-out/tag-out, confined space and MRI safety.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, including responding to all codes and assisting in enforcing Hospital security rules and policies regarding restraints.
  • Completes all safety educational requirements.           

Experience Required

  • Working knowledge of building systems and ability to read and use blueprints
  • Skill and proficiency to read, write and perform mathematical calculations and measurements as normally required through official completion of high school or its equivalent.
  • Demonstrate a level of competency in building construction, renovation, and repair, electrical, HVAC, plumbing and other related building systems
  • Knowledge of local, state and national building codes and ordinances as they relate to a hospital facility and the ability to properly interpret them.
  • Ability to move or lift tools and equipment in excess of 100 pounds on an occasional basis; frequent walking, sitting, climbing, bending and stooping. 

Education Requirements

  • High school diploma required
  • Completion of technical or vocational school preferred

License/Certification Requirements

Valid New Jersey Driver's license.

Special Requirements

Exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
