Short Description

The Registered RN is a professional care-giver who, as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team, assumes responsibility and accountability for a group of patients for a designated time frame and who supervises and provides care to these patients utilizing the nursing process including the therapeutic use of self.

Overview

The Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) is where patients come to recovery from a surgical procedure. PACU is located on the third floor of the Pavilion and Kelemen building. There is also an area on Pavilion 2. Patients here can often be sent home following the procedure or are admitted to the hospital. This is based upon the procedure performed and the necessary recovery needed. If admitted the patient is transferred to the appropriate floor for continued recovery and discharge. The PACU sees infants to geriatrics. Here the patients are closely monitor while they are waking up from the anesthesia they received during the procedure. Depending on the procedure and the orders received from the physicians the patient will be discharged home or admitted to the hospital.  

Experience Required

  • 1-year Critical Care Required (PACU Preferred) 

Education Requirements

  • Graduate of NLN accredited School of Nursing 

License/Certification Requirements

  • Current NJ-RN License (Registered Nurse)
  • Current NJ-BLS Certification (Basic Life Support)
  • Current PALS Certification (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) within 3 months of employment

Special Requirements

  • Nine (9) shifts per six (6) week schedule
  • 7P-7:30A
