Description
The Website Developer builds, maintains, and improves public-facing and internal websites supporting a fast-paced federal communications environment. This role delivers standards-based web development across front-end and CMS-driven sites, ensuring high availability, performance, accessibility compliance, and publish-ready quality. The developer partners with designers, UX staff, writers, and stakeholders to implement updates quickly and correctly under short suspense timelines. Position contingent upon contract award.

Core Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain responsive websites and web components using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Implement and maintain CMS-based sites, with emphasis on Drupal (WordPress experience also valued)
  • Build and modify page templates, components, navigation, and content structures to support evolving communications needs
  • Troubleshoot and remediate bugs and content defects, including broken links, layout issues, and cross-browser compatibility problems
  • Execute accessibility-aligned development and remediation in support of Section 508 and WCAG requirements
  • Collaborate with designers and UX staff to translate approved designs and wireframes into clean, usable, production-ready interfaces
  • Support performance and quality objectives including page speed, mobile responsiveness, and search-friendly implementation
  • Integrate and validate analytics and tagging requirements (for example, Google Analytics) in coordination with stakeholders
  • Follow structured intake and task management processes (for example, Jira or ServiceNow), providing status updates and delivery estimates
  • Maintain documentation for technical changes, build procedures, and recurring maintenance activities
  • Coordinate releases and publishing activities, including testing in staging environments prior to deployment

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a closely related field
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in web development and web design
  • Demonstrated proficiency in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining Drupal websites (including themes, templates, and content types)
  • Experience delivering responsive design across modern browsers and devices
  • Working knowledge of accessibility requirements and remediation practices supporting Section 508 and WCAG
  • Experience troubleshooting and resolving defects in production web environments
  • Strong configuration management discipline, including use of version control (Git or equivalent)
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks, meet short deadlines, and deliver high-quality outputs with minimal rework
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with technical and non-technical stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with WordPress, PHP, and template development (Twig or similar)
  • Experience implementing USWDS or other design systems in federal or regulated environments
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and deployment practices in enterprise environments
  • Experience with SEO best practices and structured content implementation
  • Experience with web security fundamentals and secure coding practices
  • Prior experience supporting federal websites or communications offices with high-visibility stakeholders

Portfolio Requirement

  • A portfolio or work samples demonstrating recent web development work (CMS-based sites and responsive front-end examples preferred)
