Primary Purpose of Position

The Constellation Pearl River Utilities Operations Maintenance Department is looking to hire an Apprentice Facilities Technician to join its team. A candidate must possess at a minimum, a high school diploma with 0-3 years' work experience in a facilities plant (Steam, Chill Water, HVAC) or similar industrial environment. The campus is a 256 acre site with multiple work location.


Primary Duties and Accountabilities

  • Perform job duties in a safe manner compliant with policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Conduct walk through inspections of mechanical rooms and equipment twice per day using an inspection list, hard copy form, or computer device to record deficiencies and improve efficiency. Maintain a safe, neat, and clean work environment, including all work areas and equipment.
  • Verify and report suspected malfunctions and variances to supervisor or designee and takes corrective actions.
  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance tasks as assigned, including coil cleaning, filter changes, and related activities.
  • Operate vehicles for plant operational purposes.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment in accordance with policy, regulation, work practices, customer requirements, or as directed.
  • Supports team objectives by working collaboratively and taking on additional or new responsibilities as required.
  • Close out housekeeping issues.
  • Report to work reliably and on time, adhering to the established work schedule.
  • Demonstrates leadership in safety by promoting compliance, correcting unsafe behaviors, and encouraging a safe work environment.
  • All other job duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations
  • Experience in an industrial or utilities environment
  • Must be able to pass extensive background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment and educational verifications, and credit check
  • Successfully pass a physical exam, including vision and hearing
  • Employment is subject to IUOE Local 30 union requirements
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license
  • Demonstrated strong skills with all Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to stand, crouch, and kneel for extended periods of time
  • Ability to climb ladders, reach with hands and arms to climb and balance
  • Ability to work in a confined space and at various heights
  • Ability to balance and walk on wet and slick surfaces, metal grates, narrow platforms, and uneven surfaces
  • Ability to work in loud, cold, hot, wet, or dry environments, indoors or outdoors
