Apprentice Heavy Duty Mechanic (2nd Year or Higher)

Geotech Drilling – Airdrie, Alberta

Geotech Drilling, a respected leader in geotechnical and environmental drilling services, is seeking a motivated 2nd‑year or higher Apprentice Heavy Duty Mechanic to support our Airdrie operations.



As part of the ConeTec Group of Companies, Geotech Drilling is known for safety, innovation, and delivering reliable drilling solutions across diverse projects. We operate a growing fleet of specialized drilling and support equipment—and we’re looking for an apprentice who can help keep our equipment running with minimal supervision.



This role is best suited for a self‑starter who has hands-on experience, strong troubleshooting ability, and is comfortable working independently. Our Airdrie location features a
newer shop still being set up, giving you the opportunity to contribute to building an efficient, well-organized maintenance space from the ground up.



Key Responsibilities



  • Disassemble and reassemble components such as engines, transmissions, cooling systems, fuel and exhaust systems, breaks, clutches, differentials, hydraulics, electrical systems and lubrication systems  
  • Inspect and test to detect faults and malfunctions in drill units, diesel compressors, hydraulic support equipment, high pressure water pumps 
  • Diagnose faults or malfunctions using computerized and other testing equipment to determine extent of repair required 
  • Perform duties that range from routine preventative maintenance to repairing major breakdowns, including troubleshooting and diagnostics  
  • Contributing to the development of apprentices and working as part of a team to accomplish maintenance goals and targets. 
  • Service attachments and working tools
  • Follow all safety procedures and contribute to a strong safety culture.



Professional Experience / Qualification

  • Registered Apprentice Heavy Duty Mechanic, 2nd‑year or higher.
  • 5 + years of hands on experience
  • Must be comfortable working independently.
  • Good mechanical aptitude and strong problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, stay organized, and make sound decisions.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.



Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Registered Apprentice in the Heavy Duty Equipment Technician / Heavy Equipment Technician trade



Compensation 

$28 to $35/hr based on experience
