The Senior Scrum Master has 2 key aspects: actively supporting one or multiple delivery teams; and acting as an Agile Coach for the organisation.
The Senior Scrum Master is a servant-leader for cross-functional delivery teams that develop, deliver, and sustain products across a portfolio of applications. The Senior Scrum Master focuses on how the team works – its process and its culture to support the product owners, highlight the need for clear and concise backlog items, and provides input regarding backlog management.
The Senior Scrum Master also acts as an Agile Coach to support agile adoption and transformation across the organisation and lead organisational changes. Being the primary point of contact of the delivery team, the Senior Scrum Master guides the delivery teams to adopt to our ways of working and contribute to continuous improvement efforts for the organisation.
Some of your key responsibilities will include:
Facilitate scrum events (Daily Scrum/stand-up, planning, backlog refinement, review, retrospective) to be purposeful, effective and encourage continuous improvement
Create a safe environment allowing each team to experiment without fear of failing, and work with the team to inspect and adapt when things don’t go to plan
Act as a true leader to guide each team towards self-organisation and promote a collaborative culture that embraces problem solving, trust and feedback
Work with each team to resolve impediments to team progress, support the removal of impediments out with the control of the team
Remove barriers between stakeholders and Scrum Teams to support the wider organisation
Be a coach to encourage teams to be self-aware, create a learning culture to help individuals, and the team, adopt a mindset that enables them to take the next steps on their agile journey
Be a change agent to support the wider organisation to understand and work effectively with agile delivery teams
Take responsibility for self-directed learning and keeps up with emerging practices and ideas
Drive improvement and innovation to increase the impact of agile practice through the organisation
Manage and oversee the application release processes as required
What will you bring to the role?
You will possess the ability to quickly learn and take on new processes and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Industry recognized qualifications in areas of Agile Delivery, such as Certified Scrum Master and Professional Scrum Master (PSM) or equivalent professional agile qualifications
In-depth knowledge and application of agile principles (Scrum, Kanban, etc) and practices
5+ experience of working as a Scrum Master with cross-functional agile teams and with multiple teams concurrently
Proven skills and knowledge of servant leadership, coaching, facilitation, situational awareness, conflict resolution, continual improvement, and empowerment
Experience of supporting and creating Agile training materials for delivery team as well as the wider organization
Experience supporting Product Owners with creating, prioritizing and managing backlogs
Desired qualifications and skills:
Passionate about agile software delivery and associated practices
Experience with interacting with stakeholders directly and providing valuable input in relation to relevant practices such as product management, quality assurance, and release management.
Excellent analytical and research skills with the ability to collect and analyse complex material and data, and present it in accessible formats
Strong work ethic and ability to navigate conflicting priorities
