Job Description: The Peer Specialist's role is to support others in recovery from a substance use disorder. The Peer

Specialist will serve as a role model, mentor, advocate, and be a motivator to recovering individuals in order to

help prevent relapse and promote long-term recovery.

Role and Responsibilities

· Will share personal, practical experience and firsthand knowledge and insight for the benefit of the client

and the treatment team.

· Serve as a mentor to clients to promote hope and empowerment in treatment.

· Participate in team meetings and treatment plan review meetings.

· Provide support, encouragement, and assistance with managing daily life activities.

· Act as an advocate for client treatment, participation in community programming, understanding rights,

mediation, and conflict resolution, etc.

· Attend weekly court sessions, do assessments of potential clients, and drug screening from the court.

· Hold weekly groups at the jail.

· Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

· High School Diploma or equivalent

· Two years of paid volunteer or work experience with adults with substance use disorders

· Been in Recovery for 1 year.

Physical Requirements

· Capable of visiting consumers in their homes or the community, which may not be handicapped

accessible.

· Must have knowledge and ability to manage their own mental illness and must be well established in

their individual recovery.

Special Requirements

· Must successfully pass background checks and drug screen.

· Valid driver’s license in the state of KY and dependable transportation
