Group Strategy is responsible for developing and driving a coordinated strategic agenda across the Group while reinforcing the Group’s Vision and Values in the formulation and execution of the Group’s corporate strategy.

Your Team:

The Group Business Development and Partnerships team is responsible for identification and execution of strategic partnerships and small-scale investments that can accelerate the Group’s strategic agenda.

The team works closely with the Group Strategy and x15 teams and other Business and Support Unit stakeholders to identify attractive areas of opportunity where third-party partnerships and/or equity investments can be utilised to drive strategic growth.

Your Impact:

The purpose of this role is to:

  • Identify investment and partnership opportunities for the CBA Group that are aligned to the Group’s Strategy and Purpose
  • Develop, in conjunction with Business and Support Unit stakeholders, the strategic rationale and execution plan for identified opportunities
  • Execute strategic partnerships, including both internal and external engagements
  • Execute identified small-scale investment or acquisition opportunities (<$50m), subject to compliance with the Group’s M&A Policy

Role Responsibilities:

  • Leading the identification of attractive investment and partnership opportunities, which are aligned with and can assist in accelerating execution of, the Group’s Corporate Strategy, including proactive opportunity sourcing through the start-up/venture ecosystem
  • Developing relationships with, and insights into, companies that could be attractive strategic partners.
  • Developing and maintaining trusted relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Providing senior executives with insights into global and domestic trends that are likely to disrupt core components of the Group’s business.
  • Leading the execution of identified strategic partnerships. This includes: identification of the opportunity; development of the strategic rationale and business plan (in conjunction with Business and Support Unit stakeholders); internal engagement relating to project resourcing and funding requirements; engagement with the proposed partner; and negotiation and execution of associated transaction documentation.
  • Supporting the evaluation of venture/investment opportunities as required (e.g., term sheets, cap table/ownership considerations, key commercial and risk issues), partnering with relevant internal SMEs.
  • In certain instances, leading the execution of small acquisition opportunities aligned to the Group’s corporate strategy, subject to the Group’s M&A Policy.

We're interested in hearing from people who have:

You will have experience in strategy development, start-up identification and relationship building, negotiation, execution and partnerships. Ideally, you have an established network in the start-up and venture capital ecosystem. You will have the ability to:

  • Demonstrate sound judgement in screening and prioritising partnership and growth opportunities
  • Build and maintain an active external ecosystem network (VC/CVC, founders, accelerators/incubators) to sustain a high-quality pipeline of opportunities
  • Demonstrate application of commercial judgement in developing business plans for investment and partnership opportunities
  • Engage with senior executives and owners of businesses which are prospective investments or partners
  • Provide succinct and informative written and verbal updates to relevant internal stakeholders, including senior executives
  • Collaborate with teams on work streams/specific project activities end to end and independently manage deliverables
  • In collaboration with Group Legal, negotiate and execute legal documentation specific to individual investments and/or partnerships
