About this role

At Commonwealth Bank, we’re focused on creating smarter, simpler lending experiences for businesses. In this role, you’ll contribute to enhancing our product risk environment, streamlining processes, and improving customer outcomes through data-driven insights and innovative thinking.

You’ll be part of a team that values thoughtful risk management, data quality, and continuous improvement, working together to support sound capital treatments, credit decisions, and reporting outcomes.

See yourself in our team

Business Banking (BB) supports Commonwealth Bank’s small to medium enterprise customers, mid-market corporate clients, and regional and agribusiness sectors by delivering a broad range of financial services and solutions. Business Lending (BL) is a product and specialised sales function providing working capital, business loans, asset finance, corporate finance, and property finance solutions, while also managing Line 1 risk and controls for these products.

We’re hiring for several roles across the Business Lending Domain, including Business Lending Modernisation, Asset Finance, and Centres of Excellence (all permanent based in Sydney). These teams work collaboratively to improve experiences for both customers and bankers through modernised processes, automation, and continuous learning.

Your Impact

As a Control Performer, you’ll play an important role in shaping the future of control governance within a dynamic and evolving environment. Beyond operating existing controls, you’ll contribute to designing, executing, and refining control activities across innovative lending products.

Your work will sit at the centre of our evolving control framework. By using data-driven insights, analysing customer and banker feedback, and identifying process breakpoints, you’ll help lift standards and ensure our control environment remains robust, adaptable, and aligned with regulatory and policy expectations.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform monthly control activities across a range of business lending products
  • Support the management of operational risk incidents and issues, including executing control updates when required
  • Contribute to the rollout of product, process, regulatory, and policy changes in collaboration with a broad range of stakeholders
  • Coordinate internal communications and support the development of training materials to build product knowledge and capability
  • Triage and respond to product-related enquiries, resolving straightforward matters where appropriate
  • Review customer breakpoints and Voice of Customer feedback to identify opportunities for improvement and support proposition refinement
  • Contribute to the design and establishment of new service domains in business lending, strengthening risk mitigation and enhancing automated controls

We’re interested in hearing from people who have

  • A commitment to building a positive, inclusive culture where different perspectives are valued and people feel supported to do their best work
  • Strong organisational, planning, prioritisation, and time management skills
  • The ability to learn complex concepts and work collaboratively to understand problems and help design practical solutions
  • Well-developed critical thinking skills, with experience using data and insights to inform decisions
  • The ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities at the same time
  • Attention to detail and a focus on accuracy
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills for engaging with stakeholders and contributing to reports and forums
