Position Summary

Work Unit Description

The John E. Rouse-Colorado State University Beef Improvement Center, formerly known as the One Bar Eleven Ranch is located nine miles east of Riverside and twenty-six miles southeast of Saratoga, Wyoming along the North Platte River.

Essential Job Duties

Assist the BIC employees with all phases of ranch work, including but not limited to: fencing, irrigating, haying, cattle work, horse work, and office work/record keeping. Learn from and work with visiting professors and/or veterinarians. Maintain a positive and safe working environment for him/herself as well as fellow interns and coworkers. Maintain the living quarters, work spaces, and work vehicles to a clean and useable standard.

Minimum Qualifications

• This is a temporary hourly position for individuals with a high school diploma or GED.
• Demonstrated interest in learning about modern livestock production and working on a research facility.
• Employees must provide documentation to their employers to show their identity and prove their authorization to work.
• Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work a flexible work arrangement including evenings and weekend hours during peak season.
• Ability to meet the physical demands of this position, which include ability to lift up to 50lbs. daily and will require manual dexterity, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching and handling.
• Ability to work in environmental conditions to include exposure to weather and noise. Hazards include: working in proximity to moving, mechanical parts.
• Must be able to live onsite in facility provided housing.
• Valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license or access to a licensed driver by the employment start date.

Preferred Qualifications

• Applicants who are currently pursuing an undergraduate degree.
• Area of study in a relevant field.

Salary Range

$16/hr
