Assistant Professor/Clinical Professor of Nursing and Program Coordinator

ABOUT THIS POSITION

Summary: Colorado Mesa University is seeking qualified doctorally-prepared Family Nurse Practitioner FNP applicants for the FNP graduate programs (MSN and DNP). This position includes a role as the program coordinator of the MSN and DNP program(s) for the FNP track; may include additional program coordination of the AGNP program, depending on experience.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  •  The standard teaching load is 12 course credit hours per semester or 24 credits over an academic year. Release time granted for program coordination efforts.
  • Creates and maintains teaching schedules for all graduate faculty.
  • Maintains up-to-date student course progression to ensure timely matriculation through the program(s).
  • Ability to read, understand, interpret, and implement accreditation criteria and state agency regulations.
  • Participates in and maintain records for program evaluation to promote academic excellence and ensure accreditation requirements are met.
  • Teaches graduate students in a variety of courses primarily in the FNP and AGNP programs (MSN and DNP tracks).
  • Additional teaching may include teaching across various nursing programs (PN, AAS, LPN-BSN, BSNt, RN-BSN, MSN, DNP) as needed and available.
  • Facilitates rigorous student learning while promoting excellence within the online classroom, clinical practice setting, and in-person Objective Structured Clinical Exams (OSCEs).
  • Facilitates OSCE development and implementation twice a year.
  • Participates in academic advising and is sensitive to the needs of students from diverse backgrounds.   
  • Promotes positive and productive relationships with clinical agencies and preceptors.
  • Attends all program and department faculty meetings. 
  • Participates in scholarship/professional productivity, teaching, community service, and advising. 
  • Maintains documented active clinical practice in primary care across the lifespan.
  • Serves on program, department, and university committees.   
  • Participates in program, department, and university events including commencement exercises. 
  • Timely and satisfactory performance of responsibilities specified in the faculty member’s employment agreement and CMU’s Handbook for faculty and staff. 
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to effectively present information to students, colleagues, and clinical partners.
 
Minimum Qualifications Required 
  •  Possess an unencumbered Colorado registered nurse (RN) license and advanced practice nurse (APN) license or eligible for RN and APN licenses in Colorado.
  • National board certification as a FNP.
  • Must have a doctoral degree (DNP, PhD, EdD) from a nationally accredited school or be within 6 months of completion of a doctoral degree at the time of hire.
  • At least two years of clinical experience as a primary care provider caring for patients across the lifespan.
 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in teaching online, in person, and in simulated environments.
  • Experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating courses.
  • Experience serving as or working with clinical preceptors.
  • Experience with graduate nursing program administration.

Employment Type: Full-time, 9-month appointment. Faculty rotate teaching a summer course for additional pay. 

Location: Must reside or be willing to relocate to the Grand Valley for regular physical presence on the main campus (Grand Junction, Colorado).
