Job Description:

Community Education is seeking innovative and engaging instructors to develop programs and teach classes for neurodivergent adults (18 years of age and older). This rewarding opportunity supports a diverse group of students—some focused on building or advancing careers, others looking to explore hobbies, develop life skills, or connect more deeply with their community. Our program emphasizes inclusive, accessible instruction that empowers learners to grow academically, socially, and personally. If you’re passionate about creating supportive and meaningful learning experiences for adults of all abilities, we encourage you to consider joining our dedicated instructional team. 

Adjunct faculty will:  

  • Develop and teach in the assigned subject(s) and level(s) in new or existing programs.  

  • Fulfill administrative requirements, meet established deadlines and complete required training.  

  • Stay current in compliance training, including compliance under Title IX “Responsible Employee” and, if applicable, Clery Act Campus Security Authority as a condition of employment.  

  • Agree to and follow appropriate College and department policies and procedures. 

Schedule varies. Days, evenings and Saturday hours are possible.  

Possible class locations include CLC Grayslake Campus, Southlake Campus (Vernon Hills), Lakeshore Campus (Waukegan), Braeloch Facility, CLC Advanced Technology Center (Gurnee) or a CLC extension site located in communities across Lake County.  

 

Delivery modes include in-person, virtual live via Zoom, asynchronous, or a hybrid of the aforementioned. In-person is most common.

Required Qualifications   

  • Two (2) years of contributions to Special Education classrooms, Transition or Day programs, or other relevant organizations serving this population.

  • Clear background check, along with substantiated subject-matter expertise, effective communication skills, and a commitment to inclusive, learner-centered instruction. 

  • Documented record of successfully supporting learners in understanding and mastering new ideas and skills. 

  • Competency and/or commitment to learn and use technologies commonly used in instruction at CLC: Microsoft Outlook for all email communications, additional Microsoft applications, common classroom projection technology, Canvas Learning Management System, enrollment software, etc. 

  • Ability to work effectively and constructively with persons of diverse cultures, gender identities, language groups, and abilities; demonstrate sensitivity to and ability to work with the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.  

  

Desired Qualifications  

  • Special Education Endorsement, License, Degree, or equivalent Specialized Training Coursework.

  • Two (2) years of successful, relevant teaching experience. 

  • An appropriate credential or demonstrated mastery in the subject area(s) you are applying to teach, such as a degree from an accredited institution or a relevant industry certification or license. 

Hiring Range: $50.00-70.00/hour

This posting will be used to obtain a pool of qualified candidates. As teaching needs arise, applications will be reviewed for possible interviews. The number of adjunct faculty hired varies from semester to semester, depending upon the needs of the department. Adjunct faculty hires and assignments are coordinated by the department chairs.
