We are looking for an energetic and innovative Engineer to join the Generation Engineering Department of our Generation Business Group. Reporting to the Team Leader of Metallurgy Team, the appointee will play a key role in supporting metallurgical evaluations and failure analyses of critical power plant components to ensure the integrity and reliability of our generation assets. The successful candidate will be responsible for the following duties:
- Assist the Team Leader in evaluating metallurgical properties and performance of critical components, including boiler tubes, pressure vessels, high-temperature / high-pressure parts and high-speed rotating equipment.
- Assist the Team Leader in conducting failure analyses of power plant components and recommend corrective actions to maintain asset reliability.
- Perform metallographic sample preparation, on-site inspections, and metallographic replication.
- Operate and maintain analytical instruments such as Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) -Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) and Spark Optical Emission Spectroscopy (OES); ensure preventive maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment.
- Carry out material identification and composition analysis, support troubleshooting for processing and equipment issues.
- Collaborate with plant engineering, operations, and maintenance teams, as well as third-party vendors, to ensure quality and compliance with industry codes and standards.
- Assist in evaluating and selecting new materials for power station equipment to enhance performance and longevity.
- Prepare detailed technical reports and documentation of findings and recommendations.
- Conduct chemical risk assessments and ensure safe laboratory operations.
Requirements:
- A recognized university degree in Materials Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, or related disciplines.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in operating and maintaining analytical instruments such as SEM-EDS, hardness testers, and Spark OES.
- Hands-on experience in:
- Failure analysis using SEM-EDS
- Metallographic examination by optical microscope
- On-site metallographic replication
- Equipment calibration and preventive maintenance
- Strong knowledge of welding metallurgy, heat treatment, and metallurgical repair techniques.
- Familiarity with power plant equipment configuration, maintenance, and operations.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and vendors.
- Applicants with less working experience may be considered for the position of Assistant Engineer.
