Radiation Therapist 

 

Cleveland Clinic Martin North Hospital is a fully integrated medical campus that includes diagnostic centers, outpatient surgery and a 24-hour emergency department located in the state-of-the-art hospital. Cleveland Clinic Martin North Hospital is part of the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic, a nonprofit, multispecialty, academic medical center that integrates clinical and hospital care with research and education.  

 

Radiation therapists implement plans of treatment prescribed by an oncologist and created by a medical dosimetrist. Radiation therapists use accelerators and ionizing-radiation producing equipment to treat diseases, primarily different kinds of cancer. The radiation is administered in therapeutic doses and can send certain localized forms of cancer into remission. It can also be used to prevent the recurrence of particularly malignant forms of cancer after they have been removed during surgery. 

 

A caregiver in this position works 9:00am – 2:00pm or 8:00am—3:00pm. This is a part time position. The goal is to work 5 days a week for about 5 hours dependent on volume. This position is to cover between Stuart and St Lucie West.

 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Provide therapeutic and patient care services to deliver radiation therapy as prescribed by a physician.  

  • Determine and deliver appropriate patient treatment plans in collaboration with physician and dosimetrist. 

  • Monitor and document patient's condition, report any adverse reactions. 

  • Assess and educate patients according to specific department protocols. 

  • Position patients and select anatomic/technical parameters accurately. 

  • Check and adjust necessary equipment, including linear accelerator. 

 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Board certified Registered Radiation Therapist through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT), R.T.(R)(T)(ARRT) in good standing. 

  • Current state licensure in state in which employed. 

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers through the American Heart Association (AHA). 

  • Experience with radiation oncology, specific electronic medical records, recording and verifying.  

 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Experience with external radiation therapy, IMRT, IGRT and CT simulation.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform duties while walking, standing, stooping, reaching and lifting.

  • Ability to lift materials weighing up to 35 lbs. Ability to push/pull over 100 lbs. Dexterity sufficient to perform computer functions.

  • Safe Operating Procedure for x-ray generating equipment.

  • Ability to float to other CCHS facilities when needed.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
