 Are you passionate about helping individuals who have been adversely impacted by gun violence? Join our team as a Forensic Peer Mentor and use your lived experience to provide compassionate, hands-on support victims and perpetrators who have experienced gun violence. Forensic Peers may work with all ages & be responsible for providing individual peer support and & facilitating skills groups.

 

What You’ll Do:

  • The Forensic Peer Mentor provides non-clinical professional and specialized support services to clients to assist them in successfully navigating the intersections between the Criminal Justice, Behavioral Health, and Community Resource systems.
  • Operate from the perspective that everyone who has lived experience with mental health and/or substance use challenges has the capacity to recover and successfully live lives of meaning and purpose in the communities of their choice.
  • Use a person-centered approach to engagement, with justice-system involved clients with mental health, substance use, and co-occurring conditions.
  • Provide trauma-informed, culturally competent direct services.
  • Serve as role models and share problem-solving and recovery-focused skills.
  • Perform a wide range of tasks aimed at creating mutual relationships with peers in hopes that the peers will regain control over their lives and over their recovery process
  • Meet with, interview and observe clients, assessing needs, and identifying barriers to accessing community resources and develop strategies to overcome them.
  • Provides support, including linkage and assistance in developing transportation plans to community services to facilitate access to treatment and supportive services.
  • Additional duties as assigned by the Clinical Director.

 

What You Bring:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Certified Peer Specialist (CPS-MH or CPS-AD) or ability to obtain within 12 months
  • Lived experience with mental health or addiction recovery
  • 1+ year of experience in behavioral health, case management, or advocacy preferred
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and technology skills
  • Reliable transportation & valid GA driver’s license

 

Inter-relationships

Must have the ability to work with an interdisciplinary team and clients. Able to maintain ongoing working relationships with community partners.

 

Working Conditions

In office based and community settings. Ability to use a computer, telephone, fax, copier and scanning machine. Comfort with justice organizations and settings, including but not limited to court.

 

Needed Attributes

Must be a team player, organized, dependable, efficient, responsible, disciplined and self-motivated. Ability to work and communicate effectively with diverse populations.
