JOB SUMMARY

Transit Operations provides safe, reliable and courteous transit services and excellence in customer service delivery to 100 million transit customers per year, by means of conventional bus, para transit and rail operations. 

You are responsible for technical support and expertise in the area of planning, data management, maintenance management (scheduling and optimizing maintenance and repair activities) and technical assistance for the Transit Facilities Maintenance unit.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of 3 year community college diploma in engineering technology (CET) OR Completion of apprenticeship program in one of the following trades: 
Electrician-Construction and Maintenance, General Carpenter, Plumber, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Systems Mechanic, Gas Technician (G1)

Minimum of 5 years of related building maintenance experience.

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES

Valid Ontario Certificate of Qualification in relevant Trade

KNOWLEDGE

  • Knowledge of applicable Legislation such as Workplace health and safety, Electrical Safety Authority, Ontario Building Code and Preventive maintenance program
  • Knowledge of computerized maintenance management systems (SAP)
  • Knowledge of spreadsheet software (e.g. Excel)
  • Knowledge of typical equipment operating and maintenance principles
  • Understanding of hoisting, rigging, and personal protective equipment
  • Knowledge of confined space rules and regulations
  • Understanding of maintenance management principles
  • Knowledge of Facilities Management (Plant Energy Systems, Minor Construction, Building inside & Outside Services)
  • Understanding of Financial processes within the City of Ottawa, including purchasing, contracting, inventory, and cost center accounting
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers    
     

COMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Able to perform tasks with minimum supervision
  • Able to maintain strong interpersonal relations with staff
  • Possess skills to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to manipulate/import spreadsheet files into Excel and create Excel reports
  • Able to read/interpret blueprints, drawings and sketches to determine specifications
  • Able to plan work and make estimates of materials and time required to complete job
  • Able to process work order transactions within the MMS (SAP)
  • Able to provide training and coaching to maintenance staff on the MMS (SAP) 
  • Organize the MMS (SAP) data into reports that are required by supervisors and managers
  • Able to provide cover-off duties for maintenance supervisors for work order processing and purchasing
  • Able to organize preventive maintenance activities within the functionality of the MMS (SAP) software system to produce a preventive maintenance schedule
  • Diplomacy, tact and demonstrate sound judgment
  • Demonstrate initiative, reliability and self-motivation
  • Contributes to the team approach to maintenance management activities

  • Language Requirement: Designated Bilingual – specific level of language proficiency: French: oral, reading, writing English: oral, reading, writing Candidates who do not meet language requirements will be required to participate in training.
