ABOUT THIS JOB

Position Specific Summary

The Carpentry Supervisor position at the City of Tucson’s General Services Department supervises staff to include hiring, training, organizing, and evaluating work of employees engaged in the repair, modification, and maintenance of carpentry, roofing, locksmithing, and paint work in public facilities and related structures.

Work is performed under the supervision of the Facilities Management Superintendent. This position exercises supervision over carpentry, roofing, locksmiths, and painter personnel.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervises and oversees the daily work of employees and coordinates personnel-related activities to include, but not limited to: training, approving work schedules, recommending and approving personnel actions, coaching and counseling, establishing performance goals, and writing performance evaluations.

  • Coordinates the work of contractors, gathers estimates for repairs and service, assists in the preparation of contracts, established specifications, inspects final work product, and reconciles contractor invoices. 

  • Visits and inspects job sites, assesses needs, and evaluates work quality.

  • Assists with facility design, reviews plans, recommends changes, and attends inspections.

  • Provides customer service, maintains databases, resolves issues, and provides problem resolutions to complex customer relations problems.

  • Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned.

Working Conditions:

Work schedule may require early morning, late evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and on-call shifts.

Often works under the following conditions: Indoor and outdoor work with heavy exposure to extreme physical, ergonomic, or hazardous environment, which includes but not limited to dirt, chemical, loud noise, and extreme weather.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Six (6) months post high school
Experience: Four (4) years of relevant experience in building maintenance and remodeling.
Equivalency: Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
License/Certifications: Valid and unrestricted Arizona Class D Driver License

Preferred Qualifications:Basic computer skills which will include emails, Word Doc, Power Point, and Excel

Four (4) years relevant in a leadership, supervisory, or project management duties.

Knowledge in Commercial roofing applications, commercial locksmithing and audio-visual equipment, access control building systems structural integrity and all building codes, and all applied building applications.

Five (5) years' experience in leading commercial maintenance teams in repairs and remodeling of commercial buildings.

Experience in creating job scopes, estimating, and delegation of team members.

Experience in All Commercial roof system applications, commercial structures, masonry, access control, interior/ exterior building applications, and building code.

Building inspector certification, OSHA Certifications, Project Management
