THE ROLE

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, energetic and outcome driven Biodiversity professional to join our Biodiversity Team. The City of Tea Tree Gully’s Biodiversity team undertakes appropriate tasks and responsibilities associated with the “hands on” work on revegetation sites and the implementation of maintenance programs for constructed wetlands and Conservation Reserves across the City.

 

Position Description – Field Officer Biodiversity

Key responsibilities include:

  • Maintain and Enhance Biodiversity Sites
    Conduct maintenance activities on revegetation areas, constructed wetlands, and conservation reserves using approved Biodiversity Standards Methods.
  • Pest Plant Management
    Identify, control, and eradicate invasive plant species using herbicides, mechanical removal, and bushcare techniques.
  • Site Monitoring and Reporting
    Monitor the condition of Council’s open spaces and biodiversity assets, perform site assessments, and report any concerns or risks to the Team Leader.
  • Team Mentorship and Safety Compliance
    Mentor new team members including trainees and non-payroll personnel, and ensure all worksite risks are assessed and managed in accordance with WHS procedures.
  • Equipment Operation and Maintenance
    Operate horticultural and natural resource maintenance machinery, perform pre-operation checks, and report faults or breakages promptly.

 

About You 

The successful applicant will have the following:

  • Certificate III in Conservation and Environmental Management

  • Unrestricted MR licence (or willingness to obtain on commencement)

  • Chainsaw Level 2 ticket (or willingness to obtain on commencement)

  • Temporary Traffic Management (TTM) / Workzone Traffic Management (WZTM) (or willingness to obtain on commencement)

  • Experience in biodiversity related works 

  • Willingness to undertake a pre-employment medical assessment and National Police Clearance

Salary range is between $75,220 - $76,478 plus superannuation guarantee and will be negotiated commensurate with skills, experience and qualifications.
