ABOUT THE POSITION:


We are now taking applications for our Summer 2026 Morro Bay Junior Lifeguard Program Coordinator. We are seeking a dynamic and capable coordinator to lead our team and help us teach the next generation of ocean-lovers how to stay safe and have a blast in the surf.


As our Lifeguard Coordinator, you will have the opportunity to organize instructors and aides to inspire kids ages 9-14 as they learn about the unique recreational opportunities and hazards associated with the ocean environment. Your days spent in the sun will meet with serious water safety education! From swimming and other beach activities, you will be responsible for supervising instructors in teaching Junior Guards everything they need to know to be confident, competent, and safe in the water.


With a focus on hands-on experience and education, our program provides participants with the skills they need to be responsible, aware, and engaged stewards of our ocean environment. With your sunny personality, strong communication skills, and experience in lifeguarding, water sports, and swimming instruction, you will be navigating the waters to make our program a success.

The essential functions of this position include leading in overseeing a safe environment, understanding the rules of the program, maintaining control of the participants, and helping facilitate the overall positive experience of youth participating in programs. All staff must follow all policies and procedures as set forth by Morro Bay Recreation Services.

QUALIFICATIONS:


Applicants must be at least 18 years of age at time of hire, possess a valid driver’s license for this position to be able to drive emergency vehicles for beach rescues, and have a High School Diploma. Knowledge of Junior Guard programs is required and needed to coordinate the program. Individuals must have a competency in working with children ages 9-14. Individuals must have current USLA and Title 22 First Aid/CPR Qualifications.


HOURS/SCHEDULING: This is a part-time seasonal position over summer. Sessions are scheduled over summer from June-August in two-week intervals. Individuals work up to 40 hours leading up to and during the program dates through the end of Summer.
