City of Hope in Duarte, California, is seeking a Clinical Laboratory Scientist II to join our Cytogenetics Department in Irwindale on a full-time basis. As a welcome bonus, we offer a sign-on bonus to eligible candidates.

In this pivotal role, reporting to the Cytogenetics Supervisor, you will be responsible for preparing specimens for analysis and performing a wide range of clinical laboratory procedures, from waived to high complexity, all while ensuring strict compliance with written SOPs and various regulatory guidelines, including FACT, AABB, ACHI, CAP, FDA, and Joint Commission regulations.

Under the authority of the Laboratory Director, you will operate in accordance with the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988, CFR Section 493.1445(a).

As a successful candidate, you will: 

  • Stay updated on techniques for preparing and processing biological specimens, including universal precautions, and maintain proficiency in manual, semi-automated, and automated procedures.
  • Execute a variety of complex laboratory tests and procedures according to established protocols and schedules, ensuring procedures are completed within specified turnaround times.
  • Review normal and critical results for accuracy and completeness, promptly notifying supervisors of unusual findings. Conduct quality control procedures, including maintenance, calibrations, and data recording, to support Quality Assurance efforts.
  • Utilize standard laboratory equipment, record and verify results for completeness and accuracy, and perform data entry of diagnostic information.
  • Prepare and label solutions, reagents, culture media, and stains in accordance with standard formulas and procedures.
  • Recognize, troubleshoot, and resolve complex technical problems, guiding and assisting others in resolution. Actively participate in maintaining compliance with competency requirements and promote quality assurance activities, including drafting and validating new/revised laboratory policies, procedures, and validation protocols for instrumentation and tests.


Your qualifications should include: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Minimum 2 years as a certified or licensed clinical laboratory scientist
  • CA Clinical Laboratory Scientist License
