About this role

Join the City of Edmonton’s City Operations department as a Mobility Data Spatial Analyst. This role is a vital part of our Safe Mobility section, where you will transform raw data into the intelligence needed to shape the future of our city’s safe mobility. By joining the Mobility Data Monitoring and Technologies team, you will help bridge the gap between complex spatial data and meaningful community outcomes. We are looking for a technical expert who is passionate about using geography and data automation to build a more connected, efficient, and safe Edmonton.

As a Mobility Data Spatial Analyst, you will serve as the primary expert for spatial data models and map-based intelligence within the Mobility Data Monitoring and Technologies team. Your primary goal is to manage, transform, and add value to mobility data—including vehicle collisions, traffic volumes, and active transportation modes data—into actionable information for decision-makers. You will lead the creation of spatial data automation processes and manage the quality and integration of complex datasets. This role supports data-driven decisions across various departments, including Integrated Infrastructure Services, Urban Planning, and Edmonton Police Services. You will also act as a key collaborator, representing the team in professional settings and sharing best practices with research associates and technical partners. Ultimately, your work ensures that our city's infrastructure and transportation systems are monitored with precision and scientific integrity.

What will you do?

  • Transform raw mobility data into spatial formats for warehousing and develop automated GIS tools to streamline data collection
  • Implement spatial techniques to integrate mobility datasets with various geospatial layers like road networks and land use to support strategic operational needs
  • Create interactive maps, heat maps, and dynamic dashboards that allow collaborators to explore spatial trends and statistical summaries
  • Provide expertise in spatial data quality control, ensuring the integrity, completeness, and accuracy of all mobility information
  • Work closely with community partners and internal teams to translate complex technical information into business insights
  • Maintain awareness of emerging trends in spatial business intelligence and evaluate new methodologies to improve performance

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Remote Sensing, Geomatics Engineering, Computer Science, Transportation Engineering, Statistics, or a related field with a focus on advanced spatial data management
  • A minimum of 4 years of directly related experience in spatial data management, maintenance, analysis, mapping, and workflow automation

Assets

  • Demonstrated ability or technical certification in FME (Feature Manipulation Engine)
  • Knowledge and programming experience in Python
  • Familiarity with the ATIA (Access to Information Act) and POPA (Protection of Privacy Act)

Skills required for success
