About this role

1 temporary full-time positions for 4 months intended specifically for students currently enrolled in a civil engineering technology diploma or related program, commencing in May 2026

You will contribute to the mandate of the City of Edmonton’s Building Great Neighbourhoods Branch, to provide a fully integrated and holistic approach to planning, designing and delivery of roads, alleys, parks, open spaces, and other neighbourhood amenities.

The Planning and Design Section revitalizes mature neighbourhoods by reconstructing roads, replacing sidewalks, providing opportunities in parks and open spaces and upgrading streetlights. In this role, you will work alongside a team of professional engineers, engineering technologists and project managers and be involved in a number of neighbourhood renewal and rehabilitation projects. This is a great opportunity to help shape the face of Edmonton one mature neighbourhood at a time!

As a part of the team, you will:

  • Develop an understanding of the Neighbourhood Renewal Process by meeting with the Project Engineer, the project team and key individuals/departments associated with the projects
  • Provide drafting and design support using AutoCAD/Civil3D
  • Prepare, administer and track the completion of Construction Record Drawings (As-Builts) for various transportation projects
  • Review transportation engineering drawings
  • Attend and participate in project meetings and field reviews with the project team
  • Prepare and review technical reports and project documentation
  • Assist with public outreach events and design activities
  • Ensure all work performed is in accordance with Department’s Occupational Health and Safety Program and Enviso (HSE) - Environmental Management System (ISO 14001)
  • Perform other related duties as required


  • Current enrollment full-time at a post-secondary institution, in a civil engineering technology diploma or related program
  • Experience using Google Workspace applications or equivalent applications
  • Experience using AutoCAD/Civil3D for drafting

  • Familiarity with municipal engineering design and construction

Conditions of Employment:

  • As part of your application, we ask that you attach an unofficial transcript or an enrollment verification letter (indicating you are enrolled in a related post-secondary program). Talent sourced through this process may be considered for similar opportunities within the City
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license (or provincial equivalent) or ability to arrange own transportation to get to project sites. Applicant may be required to obtain business use auto insurance
  • The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance

Additional Details:

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday

Salary Range: $19.623 - $21.586
