Overview

The Equipment Operator operates light to moderately complex construction equipment for construction and maintenance of City facilities and utilities.

Essential Functions

1 Operates, drives, and safely uses light to moderately complex equipment for City and utility maintenance; safely uses and drives rubber tired backhoe, tracked excavators and loaders, maintainers, bobcats, street sweepers, cranes, soil compactors, and front-end loaders; excavates asphalt and concrete, clears debris and blockages from creeks, and maintains the sanitary sewer system.

2 Drives truck and trailer rig to transport earth moving or other medium to large sized automotive equipment
to job site; adheres to safety standards and regulations.

3 Loads, transports, and unloads materials such as sand, flexbase, asphalt, gravel, and other construction
materials from City stockpiles or vendors to City locations to supply construction or maintenance projects.

4 Performs minor mechanical repairs and maintenance procedures on construction equipment to maintain
equipment in operating condition.

5 Cleans material storage areas, construction sites, and public streets with light to moderate equipment to
maintain or improve appearance of the site.

6 Completes daily report of activities performed to document progress and provide supervisors with the
knowledge needed to best allocate resources.

7 Performs other work as required or assigned.

Knowledge and Skills

1 Knowledge of equipment operation and capabilities.

2 Knowledge of safety procedures

3 Strong motor skills and eye-hand-foot coordination

4 Ability to control speed and direction of light and moderately complex motorized equipment

5 Ability to operate numerous types of equipment

6 Performing minor mechanical repair and maintenance work.

7 Establishing and maintaining effective relationships

Minimum Qualifications

EXPERIENCE:

Two (2) years of experience operating medium off- road automotive equipment used in excavation, construction, utility, landfill and/or street sweeping operations such as backhoe, rotoboom or front-end loaders. (Change Bolded list as needed for department)

LICENSE:

Valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with good driving record

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Applicants with a Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL), issued by a state other than Texas, must obtain a Texas Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within probationary period
Subject to twenty-four/seven (24/7) hour emergency calls
Must pass background check

Salary Range

 

$47,819.20 - $53,164.80
