Job Summary

The Automotive Maintenance Assistant provides and performs automotive maintenance and services for the fleet vehicles servicing the City of Dallas. Performs fueling, cleaning, and minor servicing of cars, light trucks, bicycles, and industrial equipment.

Overview

The Automotive Maintenance Assistant provides and performs automotive maintenance and services for the fleet vehicles servicing the City of Dallas. Performs fueling, cleaning, and minor servicing of cars, light trucks, bicycles, and industrial equipment.

Essential Functions

1.  Performs general automotive maintenance shop tasks and activities; monitors work space, organizes tools, cleans working areas, and ensures the safety of activities.

2.  Maintains general care of vehicles and addresses minor servicing to ensure effective operation and safety; performs tire repairs, jump starts batteries, and performs battery charges; repairs and maintains bicycle fleet.

3.  Checks and evaluates all shop supplies such as lubricants, coolant, washer fluid, transmission fluid, new oil, used oil/antifreeze, fuel levels; keeps track of gauges and information, and reports when new supplies and fluids are needed.

4.  Assists in stocking incoming parts from vendors and ensures effective inventory organization.

5.  Picks up and drops off vehicles and equipment for various departments and employees; follows all safety protocols.

6.  Collects, gathers, and delivers parts at various vendor locations and escorts service vendors as needed.

7.  Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills

1. Knowledge of general automotive maintenance and inventory.

2. Knowledge of City policies and procedures.

3. Knowledge of fleet and general maintenance protocols.

4. Ability to use and operate computers and systems.

5. Ability to perform general maintenance and fleet management tasks.

6. Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.

7. Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with peers and vendors.

Minimum Qualifications:

EXPERIENCE:  

  • Six (6) months of general work experience.

EQUIVALENCY:  

  • Associate degree or certificate in automotive or mechanical/diesel technology will substitute for the required education and experience.

LICENSE: 

  • Valid driver’s license with good driving record. 



Salary Range

 

$21.50 - $22.33
