SUMMARY
Works as a senior electrician at Charlotte Douglas International Airport primarily performing high level work installing wiring, plugs, cabling, lights and switches; locating and repairing malfunctions in electrical circuits/equipment; inspecting, servicing, testing, performing PM’s and repairing systems. Performs other general maintenance work incidental to above duties as necessary to keep buildings in working order, including basic HVAC and plumbing.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Installation, preventive maintenance, and repair of electrical and mechanical systems.
Provide lead direction and training to other employees while working in field.
General building maintenance work incidental to above duties or necessary to keep buildings in working order.
Compile lists of equipment, tools and supplies needed.
Operate cars, vans, bucket trucks and other heavy equipment.
Inspects assigned Airport construction projects. Coordinates work with contracted construction inspectors and tenants.
Extensive knowledge of other airport systems including HVAC, plumbing, generators, data emergency systems, aircraft fueling systems and electrical vehicle chargers.
Subject to emergency call back for equipment repairs and inclement weather.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education and Experience
High School diploma (or GED equivalent)
Three years of related experience
Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
Required Licenses or Certifications
State Issued Driver’s License

Thorough knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems including cabling and communications wiring.
North Carolina Electrical Code and building codes.

Performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature.
Skills to calculate cost estimates and measure items.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Spends about 70% of the time standing, bending, reaching, walking and driving. The rest of the time includes a combination of sitting, twisting, keeling, squatting, crawling, lifting, shoveling and carrying. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50lbs. About 5% of time can lift, pull or carry up to 100 lbs a short distance, with another person.
Works inside and outside. May include exposure to machinery, dust, chemicals, fumes, solvents, moving objects/vehicles, scaffolding, ladders, vibrating tools, excessive noise, large crowds and slippery or uneven surfaces. Uses a variety of electrical and hand tools.

Positions in this class typically require grasping, stooping, squatting, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
Physical Requirements:
Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, standing, climbing, or walking extended periods of time.
Moderate to Heavy lifting and carrying; regular crouching, stooping, squatting, crawling, reaching, pushing, and pulling when performing tasks.

Sensory Requirements:
Concentrated and attentive use of one or more senses (touch, visual, audio, and other sensory modalities) for mechanical work.
Ability to operate in an environment with frequent interruptions from people and or noises, which in return could result in some level of stress, fatigue, or strain.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte. The type of information that will be collected as part of a background check includes, but is not limited to: reference checks, social security verification, education verification, criminal conviction record check, and, if applicable, a credit history check, sex offender registry and motor vehicle records check.

The checks must be consistent with the guidelines set forth by these laws requiring organizations to obtain a candidate’s written authorization before obtaining a criminal background report, motor vehicle records check or credit report; and to properly store and dispose of information derived from such reports.
Final candidates must pass a pre-employment drug-screening test and physical examination. During the selection process, candidates may be asked to take a skills test, and/or participate in other assessments.
