SUMMARY

Gate Management interns will perform skilled work, including, scheduling, gate access and capacity in a highly secure environment at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Primary function of Gate Management Intern/Officer is to constantly monitor the Airport Operational Database (AODB). Must be able to assess situations quickly, objectively and determine the proper course of action within established rules, regulations and procedures while representing CLT in a professional, positive manner.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.    Continuously monitor the Airport Operational Database (AODB).  
2.    Creates links, updates and allocates flights via the Amadeus AODB/RMS system.
3.    Assists Air Carriers in scheduling flights based on Gate Availability.
4.    Receives and reviews charter flight requests and provides gate assignments for flights as needed.
5.    Monitors and reviews commercial air carriers schedule to determine aircraft gate and parking availability in order to prevent conflicts in gate assignments; resolves scheduling conflicts.
6.    Ensure proper notification, distribution and compliance with various entities of the Gate Use Procedures and related rules, directions, and notices (maximum gate use times on Common Use gates, etc.)
7.    Assess situations quickly, objectively and determine the proper course of action.
8.    Communicate effectively with both internal and external business partners and stakeholders. 
9.    Follow complex instructions; establish and maintain effective working relationships; assist with special events.
10.    Provide assistance to the airlines, tenants, traveling public and other employees as needed. 
11.    Identify and determine general nature, location, urgency and extent of problems.  Determine priority, relay and follow complex oral and written instructions.  Act decisively and exercise independent judgment within established rules, regulations and procedures.
12.    Prepare and maintain logs, records and reports.
13.    Interpret and adhere to Federal regulations, procedures and instructions to ensure the safety of persons and security of airport property. 
14.    Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Current enrollment in an accredited college or university leading towards a bachelor's degree with major course work in a related field of study specific to the departmental and/or work assignment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
•    Skills to communicate clearly and effectively verbally in person, over telephone and two-way radio. 
•    Skills to communicate clearly and effectively in writing.
•    Skills to effectively organize data and prioritize resources during routine and special operations. 
•    Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
•    Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other agencies, tenants, employees and the public, representing CLT in a professional, positive manner.
•    Ability to respond calmly and effectively in emergency and stressful situations.  Must be able to assess situations quickly, objectively and determine the proper course of action within established rules, regulations and procedures. 

GENERAL INFORMATION:
Works assigned shift, including holidays, and reports back to work during emergencies, urgent situations, special events and inclement weather. 
•    Valid driver’s license, with no more than six points, required and the ability to obtain and
      maintain a city driving permit.
•    Certain convictions will disqualify individuals from unescorted access privileges and therefore exclude from employment

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
•    Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, standing, climbing, or walking extended periods of time
•    Light to moderate lifting and carrying; some crouching, stooping, squatting, crawling, reaching, pushing, and pulling when performing tasks
•    Adequate vision, hearing, and speech required

SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
•    Concentrated and attentive use of one or more senses (visual, audio, and other sensory modalities) for proof reading, data entry, tabulating data
•    Ability to operate in an environment with frequent interruptions from people and or noises, which in return could result in some level of stress, fatigue, or strain
•    Comprehensive of written information in work related documents
•    Ability to hear, understand and distinguish speech
