Job Description:
This role will plan, create, and manage communications content across multiple media platforms.
Examples of Duties:
- Captures and edits high quality photo and video content for city initiatives, events, and day to day operations, operating camera, lighting, and audio equipment as needed.
- Develops promotional media in various formats including but not limited to videos, graphics, pamphlets, flyers, and posters.
- Supports live coverage of press conferences, events, and emergency communications as needed.
- Collaborates with communications staff to pitch, develop, and execute story ideas across platforms.
- Maintains consistency with City brand guidelines.
- Assists in managing publications and social media platforms, developing appropriate marketing strategies, content, and official releases.
- Writes copy for photo and video captions, short social media posts, and occasional website content.
- Organizes and maintains a digital asset library.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, multimedia production, or a related field, and one year of related experience in video production, multimedia journalism or content creation; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong photography and videography skills with an eye for composition and storytelling.
- Experience working in fast-paced environments, preferably in government, news, or nonprofit sectors.
- Valid South Carolina Driver’s License.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with municipal government or public-sector communications.
- Drone certification or experience operating drones.
Other Necessary Requirements:
- May require evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.
- In the event of major storms or other emergency situations, this position may be subject to 24-hour shifts or any other emergency schedule that is necessary to meet the City’s needs.
