General Description
The Office of Engineering Services provides technical and administrative support for the Department of Watershed Management’s infrastructure planning, design, and construction projects. The office ensures that all engineering work complies with city, state, and federal standards while promoting sustainable development and efficient water management practices.

The intern will assist the Engineering Services team by inputting and updating data within the Subdivision and Easement Plat Databases. This position offers hands-on experience in data management, engineering documentation, and project coordination within a public-sector environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities for the Office of Engineering Services  The following duties represent typical responsibilities for this position and are not intended to be all-inclusive. Additional tasks may be assigned as needed.

  • Input and update subdivision and easement plat data into departmental databases.

  • Review and verify accuracy of existing records and supporting documentation.

  • Assist in organizing and maintaining digital and physical engineering files.

  • Support staff with administrative and technical tasks related to ongoing projects.

  • Participate in meetings to gain insight into engineering workflows and project management processes.

  • Perform data entry, record keeping, and basic analysis using Microsoft Excel and other software tools.

  • Assist with the preparation of reports, charts, or summaries as requested.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support the Office of Engineering Services.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint).

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy when entering or reviewing data.

  • Basic understanding of engineering, GIS, or construction principles is a plus.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Willingness to learn new software and data management systems.

Learning Objectives
By the end of the internship, the intern will:

  • Gain hands-on experience in data management within an engineering and public works environment.

  • Understand the role of accurate documentation and database maintenance in infrastructure projects.

  • Strengthen technical and administrative skills using Microsoft Office Suite and related tools.

  • Develop professional communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.

  • Build foundational knowledge relevant to careers in engineering, construction management, or public administration.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be eighteen years of age or older
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States of America
  • Must be a sophomore or above college student at application submission
  • Minimum overall GPA 3.0 
  • Must attach College Transcript – Unofficial IS acceptable (NO screenshots)
  • Currently pursuing a bachelors, associates or above from an accredited college or university. 
  • Must have at least one semester remaining at the start of the internship
  • Must attach Resume (NO screenshots)
  • Preferred Major: Environmental Science
